Re: 1965 Grand Final

The other thing I noticed was how Saints players casually wandered across the mark as an Essendon player was lining up his shot at goal... Take a look at Fordhams first goal then the same thing happened when Ken Fraser kicked his first. No penalty back then or was it just poor umpiring from Crouch? ...

Re: 1965 Grand Final

Yes, twas good to relive that GF on the You Tube site (thanks for that BD) The thing that really stands out for me is the almost total lack of apparent emotion or enthusiasm displayed by the players after each goal is scored. The goalkicker simply trots back to his position without any histrionics o...

Re: Essendon vs Adelaide Elimination Final Pre Match Discussion

Won't be putting my house on them but just have a quiet feeling about Fri night.

We've got nothing to lose. and we pushed them this season, only their freakish 21.4 beat us and 2 of those points were rushed.

Re: Hands up

My sentiments entirely j-mac. In my mind (I'm goin to California) I've kinda written the year off already. That happened after we lost to that absolute rabble Richmond. Knew we didn't deserve it after that, despite beating the Aints... Then, with a certain finals spot on the line, to not even fire a...

Yes Filth. Interestingly, Bendigo had a fair sprinkling of senior loist players running atround with them on Sunday and yet they still got thumped. It kind of adds weight to the theory that you're only as good as your worst 5 or 6 players. As for PJ and the Bombers coffers... nothing much has ever c...

Re: Not that fussed.

Me neither Filth. But it just craps me off that we've come out of the game with what appears to be yet another major injury, this time to Bellchambers. We're down to just the one solitary ruckman now with Hille out and now that Laycock has done his other foot (stress frac) Heaven help us if anything...

Re: Why don't we kick it to Paddy more?

Knights made an interesting comment about him recently. Says that Paddy ffrustrates him as he often doesn't even bother calling for the ball during a game. He (Ryder) seems to have great stamina, judging by the way he's rucking almost the whole game so it's obviously not a fitness issue...just a bit...

A good crumbing small forward?.... I submit that we aint had one since Darren Bewick retired. Sheeds tried to get Milne back to the club a few years ago and from what I 've read, we all but had him before Grant Thomas got the nod as coach and said 'No Way Hose'. There was a piece in the Geelong Addy...

Re: Hall of Fame Salmon????

For your info BD.

Bill Morris played 140 games for Richmond. Won the 1948 Brownlow and came 3rd in 1946 and again in 1950. So obviously could play a bit ; so fair enough selection I reckon.

Tragically, took his own life in 1960 aged only 38.

Re: Hurley up forward?

Ok I'll bite. I haven't seen any one else raise it so I will....that old chestnut, Fletcher to the forward line, only this time permanently.

Pears and Hooks have fitted in like a glove in the Key defensive possies and with Hurley also waiting in the wings back there I reckon we could do a lot worse.

Can't see much point in having him running around in what is little better than a local country league standard team (and a pretty ordinary one at that) like you would see down here in the Bellarine Pen'sla comp for example. (Actually the same could be said of any of most of our senior listed player...

Not saying that this is the case with Jay but some blokes body shape's just don't change no matter what they do. Re: Tht Monday Night Game we played in 1952

Twas the golden era for both clubs, so obviously it was meant to be a showcase game. Although sadly Essendon's magical run was just on the wane then, while Geelong's was on the rise (they, in fact, won the big one in 52 making it back to back flags) while we, I see, missed the finals altogether that...

Tht Monday Night Game we played in 1952

Just out of curiosity, I checked that game out on the club's website (every game ever played) It was played at the Brisbane Showgrounds against reigning premiers Geelong. We thumped them and a bloke by the name of Coleman kicked a lazy 13. What a pity we don't have more footage of those great games ...
