Grundy for mine ... the sort of ruckman who turns average mids into very good, and very good into elite.

Re: Sons of Guns Say Up Your Bum

Hird’s boys were never going to be “encouraged” to aim for AFL and that makes perfect sense. Hird can segue them into an international academy with his growing presence in the soccer scene in Asia and Europe. As for Mason, I get the sense he was simply not up to scratch. I think the next Fletcher l...

Three if you also include Alex Hird.

Sadly, they give a listicle of the Hird boys progress in soccer in every "James Hird Academy" newsletter.

Re: Adrian Dodoro

Anyhow... could someone in the industry advise me on whether this is true? Somewhere in the last couple of weeks I came across commentary that basically said that AFL players are restricted to 38 hours a week training off season and even less during season (I suppose club mandated training). This is...

Re: Jacob Townsend

Strikes me as a Devon Smith type forward - tackles, nippy and likes a goal. Oh and has done both knees (ACL) as opposed to Smith's knee complaints (PCL). Also has a premiership medallion. Problem I have with the rumored pickups is that they don't seem to be addressing our "widely identified" midfie...

Re: Adrian Dodoro

As pointed out recently in a similar discussion, our drafting has been hit and miss at best. Since the late 2000s we can name but a handful of hits and sadly a truckload of misses The Hits, players who I consider Above Average bordering Elite have been few and far between with most being Top 10 pic...

Did any volunteers with 25 years service get Life Membership at Essendon lately?
No, but they've been offered heavily discounted psychology services.

Re: Remember The Days When...

True, but having Riolli in our side was preferable to him not being in our side. Why did Didoro doubt the word of Longy and Kickett? You'd have to ask him, but it was the year that Sheedy got "sacked". And Sheeds was keen on him. Then along came Matty Knights and Ashley Prescott who had some hair bra...

Re: Remember The Days When...

Laycock, Bradley, Myers, Gumbleton, Shane Harvey, and James Davies...those selections derailed our squad for 10 years. I know it’s a lottery but just think if we had been super smart with our picks. The list below shows players selected after our choice. And there were many other great players we c...

Re: Remember The Days When...

On a cold and boring Sat night, I have gone through the draft since 2000 and have listed our First round picks or our highest pick that year. Better/more longevity players from that year are in brackets after the first pick. In doing this exercise - there was certainly some crap selected, while some...

Re: Those Shown the Door....

Great we have now burnt our bridges with a forward that is the most reliable kick in the club and a big backman who has stepped into the breach when Hooker and Hurley were injured. Surely we need some sort of insurance policy and we should have retained them. I'm not that upset they're gone really....
