Whatever remote chance Brad Hodge had of being selected for the Boxing Day Test has been extinguished by his mother. She has come out in today's Herald Sun blasting the national selectors for ignoring her son, and Victorians in general. In some instances, the sqeaky wheel gets the oil, however, I think in this case, the sqeaky wheel will be written off. I do sympathise and understand the frustrations, but the selectors will not look upon this favourably.

Need an early breakthrough tomorrow.
Require 292 runs with 90 overs left, just over 3 an over.

If we get a early breakthrough, it should be all over.

don't think so, Rama, England needed Cook to be there at the end of the day. Flintoff's form does not inspire confidence - although, no one last year would have tipped Justin Kemp to make a match saving 55 off 166 balls.

good to see Cook make a big score. he's looked a good batsman in each of his innings, but a few loose shots have been his downfall. a bit more luck today.

one thing England should be concerned about is why it took so long for the lights to come on. they were batting in terrible light for about 30 minutes.

In reality all we need is one wicket.

However Flintoff has got a hell of a lot to play for and we all know what Pietersan can do. All they need to do is put on 150 and the game becomes really interesting.

However one wicket early and the Urn is ours.

I was also stoked to see Cook ton up, he looks like a batsman.

even if Pietersen and Flintoff put on 150, they'll still be 150 short ;)

And Monty Panesar!

He was left stranded 84 runs short of his maiden century in the 1st innings!

Flintoff is going bananas in the early stages of day 5. Just took three consecutive fours off Clark.

Are they going for the win?

They'll go for the win while these 2 are in. Niether is great defensive batsman.

Be interesting to see what Jones does. Literally batting for his spot. He can play a defensive innings.

1 more wicket and the Ashes are coming home!!!!
Hopefully Warnie saves his 700th for his home crowd. Don't need him to get it over in Perth, that would just be a damn shame.

There goes any interest left in this series. All the other games are now dead rubbers & I couldn't really give a stuff if we win in a white wash or not.

The Poms have been found wanting & have shot themselves in the foot with bad selections, bad tactics & ordinary batting. Now they will play their best keeper in Chris Read for the last 2 tests, & as everyone said after Monty played in this game, people will be saying 'why hasn't this bloke played all along?'

Hopefully we get a much more competitive Ashes series in 2009, which the Poms should win provided they have learnt some lessons from this tour.

and Ch9 are as reliable as ever with their nauseating naval gazing. did we really need Mark Taylor getting all chummy with the players and asking them inane questions?
