Re: Australia v South Africa Test Series
I reckon Patterson from NSW fits that mould.
Re: Australia v South Africa Test Series
You would assume that his father would be removed from all selection decisions if that was to occur, although given the nepotism evident in Australian cricket , that suggestion might be too sensible.BenDoolan wrote:Yeah, I'm with you. Time to inject a young punk into the team. Dunno how it would look if Jake Lehmann got selected while Boof is team coach. Might be awkward for both of them.ealesy wrote:Ferguson did just score a ton for South Australia, but did he have a good summer last year thought he only averaged 30 odd in First Class Cricket.BenDoolan wrote:What a surprise...Shaun Marsh injuredealesy wrote:That's changed, just read an article about how Australia's humiliating loss has been further compounded by the loss of Shan Marsh for the rest of the season with a broken finger.
f*** me, I would call that the f****** silver lining of the cloud. Pity someone didn't break his, equally unworthy of being an Australian Test player, brother's finger as well.
Question marks over Voges as well who appeared to twinge a hamstring in the field as well.
Burns, who is coming off a double failure in Queensland's Shield game and Callum Ferguson have been added to the squad.
Ferguson is probably deserving of selection. But he's just as injury prone as Marsh. Maddinson and Handscomb stiff.
Personally, instead of going a 30+ player with an average first class record, I would go a younger player with plenty of natural talent and potential, a Maddison, Handscomb, Dean or Lehmann, even if their FC record does not necessarily warrant it yet. I mean it worked with Clarke and Smith.
Re: Australia v South Africa Test Series
Done some research
Ferguson averages 39 in FC cricket, would probably average more if he was better converting 50s into hundreds, having scored 33 50s but only 13 hundreds.
Patterson, Maddison, Handscomb and Head average mid 30s in first class cricket. Lehman and Dean each average 44 in first class cricket with a breakdown of 4/4 and 3/4 of 50s to 100s, in 16 and 11 games respectively.
Of course Patterson and Maddison have the added advantage of playing for NSW and thus will get a look in before Lehman or Dean.

It's a funny thing about averages. The Big Show averages above 40 in FC cricket, but is basically labelled a limited over player. And even then, he was dumped from the ODI side...ealesy wrote:Done some research

Re: Australia v South Africa Test Series
I would definitely go for a younger guy. And White.
And while Nevill was good yesterday, surely they have to be thinking about going back to Wade if he doesn't make many more runs.

f****** lol, after announcing "no changes", we've seen Shaun Marsh, Siddle and Voges fall to injury...

Might be the last of Sids & Voges and Marsh must be on shakey ground as he's as fragile as a used and stretched prophylactic.BenDoolan wrote:f****** lol, after announcing "no changes", we've seen Shaun Marsh, Siddle and Voges fall to injury...
Re: Australia v South Africa Test Series
One has to lament the constantly injured. FFS, Marsh has barely ever played 3 consecutive matches. What about Pat f****** Cummins? When was his test debut?? 4 - 5 years ago??? And he's still only playing the short form of the game ffs. Why isn't playing Shield? It's got me f***** how someone can be injured for 5 years. Throw James Pattinson in that bag as well. FMD. These guys need to evaluate whether they're in the right game. Take up chess or some other pastime.F111 wrote:Might be the last of Sids & Voges and Marsh must be on shakey ground as he's as fragile as a used and stretched prophylactic.BenDoolan wrote:f****** lol, after announcing "no changes", we've seen Shaun Marsh, Siddle and Voges fall to injury...

2nd Test;
Magnificent start to this test. Smith loses another f****** toss. We bat on a greenish, moisturised wicket. Enter the collapse...
AUS 6/35 (V. Philander 3-3) v SAf
Every batsman's dream on debut - come in facing a hat trick with the score 4/8

Re: Australia v South Africa Test Series
Oh well, here we go. Perhaps we should set an early goal of getting to 50 with no more than 3 wickets lost.
