Saw a good little program or 2 on 7Racing,starting with the story on Melbourne Race Caller,Greg Miles.
As a kid,I had heard a lot of Joe Brown in the late 70's,who established his own reputation as a great Race Caller, calling The Race That Stopped The Nation,33 Consecutive Years, finishing in 1980 with Belldale Ball's Win.
Greg took over in 1981 and hasn't stopped.I always looked at Melbourne Racing his way. When Greg was on,the meeting meant a lot. When he took the day off,it was just your Run of the mill meeting, with no disrespect meant to Terry Bailey.
Bill Collins was a Legendary Caller, but my exposure to Flemington,Caulfield,Mooney Valley and Sandown came courtesy of ABC Perth's Grandstand(hosted by Peter Harrison),who crossed over to Melbourne. The Mecca of Thoroughbred Racing in Australia!
Greg Miles was no less a part of that.He has been monumentally Fantastic!

Re: Greg Miles
He's a legend. But he's been losing his shit for the last 12-18 months. Calling the wrong horse or names - like calling the Caulfield Cup fav Magnolian Khan instead of Mongolian Khan. And his ability to call a tight photo has diminished significantly. I hope he hangs up the binoculars soon, to negate the risk of his status being in jeopardy.
Re: Greg Miles
Mmmmmmmmm,interesting info there Gimps.
After a long stint with the occasional loss of voice,I guess any commentator would deserve to put the feet up,upstairs in any Life Members' Bar and relax.Closest I've got in Melbourne,is the Huge Room upstairs at Moonee Valley, where I picked up a Jumper of mine.
Geelong Cup for Mr Miles today.been to the Racetrack there at least twice.Loved the Dim Sims there.Hadn't seen one in a Donkey's age.

Re: Greg Miles
Retired from Race calling,it’s still good to hear his voice on Radio or TV.
You guys have 2 Radio Racing Networks, don’t you?Which one is he predominantly or exclusively heard on?
