Also coz India reneged on the original deal to play a boxing day test against them so to fit their rejigged tour schedule in they needed to make it 4 days.tonysoprano wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 10:48 am It may have been because it was v Zimbabwe, or perhaps because it was a day night test (or both factors) - but I believe there was an inaugural 4 day test match Saffers v Zimb? Sadly I think it finished well inside that time.
But I'm with many of you, the pitch has to give bowlers a chance. Placid feather beds kill the game. I'd prefer grassy seamer on days 1 and 2, drying and turning on days 4 and 5.
Of course, I'm not an agricultural scientist, horticulturalist or curator, so I'm probably asking the impossible.

Re: Ashes Cricket 2017/18
Any thoughts on this pitch so far?
From where I sit (lounge!) looks hard to score and hard to get people out. The very definition of a poor wicket. Perhaps not as bad as Melbourne - yet.
Edit: and Warner gets out!

Re: Ashes Cricket 2017/18
Better than melb pitch.
Day 1 a bit for the bowlers if they get it right. Yes scoring slow, but sensible batting can be like that.
I think today and tomorrow will be best for batting and days 4/5 will slow down and turn...

Khawja and the Marshs proving my thoughts wrong but opposition is crap. 5/544 as MM posts a 100.
MM clean bowled immediately after getting the century.
198 in front. Predictions of declaration? Bat it out or a lead of 350? Whichever comes first?

While I still don’t like the way they’ve made their way back into the team, the Marsh brothers have had excellent series. Well done.

So turns out Smarsh can bat when put in his natural middle order position.
Still not sold on Mitch, 2 tons on 2 absolute roads still worries me heading into South Africa. At least his brother made one on a slightly more difficult deck.

Lucky we're not playing Afganistan just yet.
Wonder how long we'd last against their U/19 side, who just Caned the Kiwis on their own Turf by 202 Runs!

I tend to agree about Smith Ben,but I'm afraid that ain't going to happen for some time yet.
Reckon they really have been in holiday mode.Ashes Won,Job Done.
Cricket Australia have a Year and a Half to sort the One Day caper out before Mid 2019.
Still, pressure's ALL on the Poms as they haven't Won a Cricket World Cup yet and if they blow their best chance at home next year, what a laugh that'll be.

Perhaps not,but it's up to Lehman and Co to work that out.
Unless JL's taken over by then. That'll be the push by Wesszttern Australians here, who never go to our Shield Games.
JL owes us a Shield Winning Season before he Buggers off to National Duty in my book.

He already has a big influence in national duty. Seems to be in the ear of the selectors to get his pets in the side.grassy1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2018 11:26 pm Perhaps not,but it's up to Lehman and Co to work that out.
