2022 FIFA World Cup

Post by grassy1 »

This One’s a Bit Different, running late in the Year as opposed to June/July,mainly in a Northern Summer.Except, with this Tournament being very controversially held in Qatar, playing at the height of Summer was not an option.

So with most of the World’s Football Leagues on hold for about 5 weeks, the Tournament goes ahead at this time of year,in generally climate friendly environment. It certainly isn’t so politically.

But with no conscientious objection to participating in this year’s event,it presses on.Had Australia followed through on it’s conscience,I daresay FIFA would have given none other than Italy a back door entry.Politically speaking,Russia May have been cynically admitted, but FIFA may have seriously baulked at that and instead played safe,in admitting a 4 time Champion in at the last minute, despite their failure to qualify two times running.

The Time difference isn’t too bad for Perth, with many games at 6 and 9PM our time, but not so good, the more you head East.

Later on today,I’ll go over a few of the chances I reckon are possibilities for World Cup Glory. As much as I my old Favourite in Brazil to do well, something tells me a Gallic style Final might be a strong possibility in France v Belgium. The Germans no doubt with their Methodical,Robotic Monotonous style will be about the place, but that doesn’t necessarily make for great Football.

I recommend the Netlfix doco on FIFA corruption before watching the tournament. Awarding Russia and Qatar as hosts on the same day for 2018 & 2022 is batshit insane.

As for the tournament the winner will obviously come from a nation who has already won it but would be nice to see another nation go well at the tournament.

It still all feels so far away as I still have two Celtic games to attend before the World Cup starts! :D

Great start by the Socceroos this morning with a goal in the 9th minute but they immediately went into their shells and allowed France to attack. Mbappe is an absoulte freak. 4-1 to the frogs!

Saudi Arabia beating Argentina 2-1 was a massive upset, much of the talk going into the World Cup was surrounding Messi and his last chance to win it.

Japan 2 Germany 1 a massive upset. Two reasonably late goals for the Blue Samurai as well.

Brazil against Serbia tomorrow morning should be a good game.

Australia defeat World no. 10 Denmark to progress to the round of 16 where they will face Argentina. Great goal from Leckie!

Not bad for a team who's left back plays club football for Dundee Utd!

Sensational win by the Socceroos. Incredible effort.
Lets hope we don't get embarrassed by Argentina, I'll take honourable loss (or penalty victory!) for sure.

Decent effort this morning by our lads. Just lack a little more skill and composure. But well organised, made it tough for the argies most of the game. Well done to Arnie and his crew.

…….and that little bit of luck at the end, when Martinez almost lost that ball.2 - 2 and into Extra Time!Could see Messi breathing a deep sigh of relief afterwards.

If only Behich had passed for a tap in instead of trying to take a shot off balance! Fantastic effort from the team but Messi is on a completely different level to everyone else that played in the game.

I wonder if games played at altitude in Mexico will be "different"?
I suppose they've got 4 years to improve their haemoglobin levels. Will altitude be a factor?
Live high, train high! Is there a soccer ground at Perisher? ;)
Team bonding walks...to Everest base camp, holidays at altitude, all training camps at altitude...I wonder what we'll see in their preparation. :-k
