2023 Australian Open

Post by robrulz5 »

It's that time of January again!

Nick Kyrgios withdrew yesterday which is a shame as he was a real chance for the title.

Nadal had a tough match yesterday but got through in 4 sets.

Plenty of Aussies on court yesterday:

Wins to Millman, Kubler, Gadecki & Rinky Hijikata who came from 2 sets down in his match.

Two clear favourites for the singles titles with Djokovic on the Mens side and Swiatek on the Womens side.

This was Nick’s big chance to really knuckle down to Finally Win a Big One and his knee tripped him up.Onwards to the Clay Circuit and Roland Garos!

Tuesday was an interesting day with the heat rule coming into play in the afternoon and the night session being washed out with rain!

Now we are past the first couple of days the Aussies are being knocked out all over the place.

Nadal is out after a straights set loss and obviously not being at 100%.

Pick of the matches today is Kokkinakis against Murray.

This Year is surely Rafa’s Last Hurrah! His poor old Bod is just letting him down a little too often.Focus solely on Winning at Roland Garos first, then freshen up for Wimbledon with as much rest as possible.Hopefully you pull off at least One more Grand Slam before you put the old feet up,for a well Earnt rest! You Deserve it Champ!

Top 2 seeds in both Men's & Women's out in the first week!

Djokovic has battled through with a hamstring injury and we farewelled Sam Stosur. 2nd week of this event could just about throw up anything!

De Minaur absolutely smashed by Djokovic 6-2 6-1 6-2. He didn't do much wrong but just couldn't compete.

Djokovic once again being delivered a bottle with notes and tablets attached.
Apparently it's within the rules.
But surely it shouldn't be??
The notes I can kind of accept as it's probably just "coaching" - although surely that should be verbal from the players box only.
The tablets are a complete no-no as far as I'm concerned. If you need painkillers, salt tablets or whatever, you should call for the doctor/physio (have an injury time out if necessary) and the doctor/physio can provide whatever relief is required.

It was most likely a caffeine tablet or something to give him some energy as he was a little out of it for a while.

All over for another year!

Great to see Sabalenka win her first major in a great hard hitting final.

Djokovic stakes his claim for the GOAT status grows stronger with his 10th Australian Open and 22nd Grand Slam title.

Aussie Wildcards taking out the Mens doubles was also fantastic!

The Kinky’s Winning their Doubles Tournament was the highlight for many!
