Australia has drawn by far the toughest of the groups in the Asian Confederation.

We play Iraq, China and Qatar. Need to finish in the top 2 in the group to progress to the next stage of qualifying. Will actually be quite a tough ask I think.

The rest of the groups ended up as follows:

Group 1: Qatar, Iraq, China, Australia
Group 2: Thailand, Oman, Bahrain, Japan
Group 3: Turkmenistan, Jordan, North Korea, Korea Republic
Group 4: Singapore, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia
Group 5: Syria, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iran

Europe
All group winners qualify. The 8 best runners up play off for the final four positions.

Group 1: Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Albania, Malta
Group 2: Greece, Israel, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia, Luxembourg

Group 6: Croatia, England, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra
Group 7: France, Romania, Serbia, Lithuania, Austria, Faroe Islands
Group 8: Italy, Bulgaria, Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia, Montenegro
Group 9: Netherlands, Scotland, Norway, Macedonia, Iceland

Africa
The 12 group winners and 8 best runners up progress to the next stage.

Group 1: Cameroon, Cape Verde Islands, Tanzania, Mauritius
Group 2: Guinea, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya
Group 3: Angola, Benin, Uganda, Niger
Group 4: Nigeria, South Africa*, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone

Probably the most interesting thing to come out of the draw is that England have drawn Croatia again.

Any other thoughts?

Will be an interesting atmosphere at the North and South Korea games

I reckon we will be right too as long as we don't have to keep digging into our second string players... Cahill is the key!!

Quite happy with Scotland's draw. Just need to win a couple of away games and we will be right!

And not lose to the shit teams.

I think with a full team, we will get past China quite easily. Iraq will definitely be a handful.

Did anyone see the Article on the world game website. http://www.theworldgame.com.au/socceroo ... cid=103287

Are we going to go with A league for the Qatar match in Feb... It sounds like we have no choice .. would love to see carney and any others that aren't seeing regular time in Europe arrive early. Outside that who will our strikers be.

Article leans towards Aloisi and Archi .. possibly griffiths or BROSQUE

Would be interested to see what others think if we have to go with A League ?

Any guesses as to our team for next week ...I don't think verbeek is playing games when he says that the a-league is below par ... so that means we have a bunch of jetlagged expats flying in .. this sounds worse han the asian cup .. couldn't we have arranged our home games in London .?? I'm guessing that our home games had to be somewhere in the asian region ..

Lineup thoughts ?

Australia should win. Looks like there won't be many A League players in the starting lineup which is to be expected as it isn't a strong league at the moment.

$4.50 for the draw, I say take it.

Would like us to win 3-0, we must beat Qatar twice, and as long as we win our home matches against Iraq and China, we SHOULD qualify for the 2nd phase.

I went last night and it was great. If you don't get shivers down the spine when 50,000 are singing the national anthem you are not Australian.

The only downer was the 6'6 copper that decided to stand in front of me where he wasn't suppose to be standing. When I asked him to move with about 10 others he told us to get farked.
