A lot of talk that Milne will be on the trade table after yesterdays game... he along with Schneider should have won the Saints the flag really but they misssed way too many shots at goal.

Wont happen Mrs.M. Still averaging two goals a game. Yet to stand up in a final though. Very disappointing.

Putting Milne, Schneider and talk of trading for Nathan Brown aside...

Do the Saints actually have a young forward type playing for Casey at the moment who could step up next year??

It's definitely something that we're on the look out for. A third forward option who's not a crumber like Schneider or Milne. More of a lead up type like O'Keefe and we're all hoping that Lynch becomes that player. Apart from that there are no stand out small forwards amongst our young kids. Gwilt has been tried in that role and so has Dempster but neither has made much of an impact. Gilbert was playing forward pre-season but was doing so well down back that they left him there.
There are a few young fellas with potential but that's a long way from delivering at AFL level. Tom Lynch has put in an excellent first season playing off half forward for Sandy, so we're hoping for him to come on. (We're aligned with Sandringham now, Casey is with the Dees).Jarryd Allen was looking the goods. 193cm, quick and excellent hands. Missed the whole year with a hip injury and now he's retired so it's chronic. We also picked up Nick Heyne in last year's draft. He had a good final year in the TAC Cup before we drafted him. Mid-field / forward type who likes a goal. There's also an aboriginal rookie named Ross Tungatalum. Lighting quick but still as light as a feather. Time will tell if any of these guys crack it at elite level.

No chance!!!! Armitage was stiff I reckon not to see more game time this year. Is a solid in and under mid who we're hoping will come on and be a mid-field fixture for years to come. Was BOG in the game against Hawthorn when we rested all our players. Only drawback is that he's not the quickest runner in the world. Stiff not to be in the team in place of Dempster IMO.

A question VS, do you think that the fact Dempster had previous grand final (and premiership) exprience was a deciding factor in him getting a gig for the Grand Final. He's a handy serviable type of player, but not really the type who is going to pull a special one out and win the game for his team.

Just could not understand his selection over some of the guys who missed ouy.

I'm with you on this. I reckon Lyon has a bit of a blind spot about Dempster from his Sydney days. Dempster came back from an ACL mid-seson and managed to fit back into the team. Lyon has shown a few times that he rates Dempster but his form since returning from his knee reco was GOP at best. He may have been chosen for the GF based on his ability as a stopper, given that Geelong have such mid-field riches, but I would have preferred Armitage myself. Or leave Dempster in at half-back and put Armitage in for Raph Clarke. In those conditions Armo would have added a bit more grunt around the contests. Hindsight's a wonderful thing.
Dempster's GF experience may have been a fringe issue, but I'd be surprised if Lyon was choosing someone based on that. He'd be more likely to pick someone to play a specific role. GF experience is more likely to be a bonus rather than a key factor IMO.
