Henno could stay
I hate Henneman as well, with a passion, and i am ropeable about the decision just as you are, but youre an idiot if you actually believe this statement.Rossoneri wrote: Well, whats the point of going to the games if its clear that Sheedy obviously has no intention of improving the team let alone winning matches.
I will always put up with poor seasons as much as I will put up with success. But if the coach obviously doesnt want to try and get better, then whats the point?
I don't believe Henno is any good, most of us don't believe he is any good, we all agree on that. Obviously some down at the club don't agree. That's a difference in opinion. They are doing what they think is best (even though we don't agree with them).
But you can't say shit like Sheedy "has no intention of improving the team" and that he "doesn't want to get better". That's absolute garbage.
So when are we officially going to change the name of the club to the Sheedy Football Club??!!
If Henno and Bolton both stay it is down to one man: Sheedy.
He is clearly now making decisions based on, sentiment ego and desire to prove his critics wrong and show that one or both of Henneman and Bolton can be good AFL footballers, instead of what is best for the ESSENDON Football Club!!!
Couple this with the fact that he gifted Dean Rioli 100 games in the off chance he might have a son (only has a daughter at this point in time), who might be a good AFL footballer in 20+ years time. A decision that meant someone like Ben Jolley was robbed of two extra games to prove he might be worth a spot on the senior list.
Sheedy is getting far too touchy feely to be an effective AFL coach!!!
Sentiment does still have some part inm footy but nowhere near the level that Sheedy is allowing it do rule his decisions.

Henno has not been re-signed, just merely retained on the list for the time being, and if something better is out there come PSD time he will be cut.
I am positive that will happen.
Final lists have to be at the AFL by November 17 I think, so those in dispute but retained on lists will surface to the top by then.
I am sure (or I would expect) that our recruiting department/match committee would be fully aware of who remains unsigned.
I dare say the next couple of weeks could see us being able to work out a deal with a player and then "commit" to them given Carlton has already done so with Cain Ackland, (a deal that I must say came out of the Blue - pardon the pun).

He won't be kept on the list lads, calm down. He's just an emergency, a stop gap, I would presume only just to have a tall bloke on the list in case Fletcher, Bradley, McPhee or Lucas break a leg or something.
You couldn't fool your own mother on the foolingest day of your life with an electrified fooling machine.
So how does having Henneman actualy improve the team at all? Why not just keep Rama on the list, or play one short?Staggy wrote: But you can't say shit like Sheedy "has no intention of improving the team" and that he "doesn't want to get better". That's absolute garbage.
This team will get nowhere if it refuses to make tough decision and clean out the dead wood.
Its all well and good of getting rid of the naughty boys, but if we keep rewarding mediocrity then we are going to end up like Hawthorn were a few years back and be bottom four for a very long time. This club never used to be like that. If you were no good, you were gone, regardless of how nice a bloke you were. We wouldnt give in to player demands just for the sake of it. You had to earn your dues, but now the club seems to be scared of change.
October 07 is going to be a very interesting time, with alot of coaches coming out of contract, who will stay and who will go?
He kicks on the left

Makes Riewoldt look shite!

I agree 100% about not rewarding mediocrity. But you still can't allege that Sheedy "does not want to help the team". That's a clear exaggeration.Rossoneri wrote:So how does having Henneman actualy improve the team at all? It's actually not such a "tough" decision to make. It's incredibly easy, but this club makes it out to be a very hard decision. Drafted in 1999, and 58 inadequate games since, adds up to a simple decision. In fact, this decision should have been made at least a couple of years ago, it was that obvious. This club simply has no excuse when senior "class" players get injured and we have no adequate replacement on the list to take their place. I agree with your sentiments, but perhaps some of the suggestions you presented are a "little over the top". Understand your frustrations though.Rossoneri wrote: This team will get nowhere if it refuses to make tough decision and clean out the dead wood.
I know for a fact that Casey Scorpions are trying to sign him up for next year, but negotiations are on hold due to Essendon making a decision, and whether his police career sends him far and wide.
Well if nothing else why not take a punt on travis gaspar. would be better than another year of heno? 193cm due for some luck with injurys and our injury managment is one of the best in the world. ok maybe most expeirenced.. err we have the most stretchers and wheel chair access of any club.
but seriously would you take a punt on him?

Was thinking along similar lines, though more towards our ruck division. With Cartledge gone, Ryder still very young and Laycock already seemingly injury prone, maybe they thought he woould be the next best option. Though I wouldn't have kept him on the list, I actually thought the games he filled in as a makeshift ruckmen were the ones where he looked the best.Ossie wrote:He's just an emergency, a stop gap, I would presume only just to have a tall bloke on the list in case Fletcher, Bradley, McPhee or Lucas break a leg or something.

Cartledge, Lucy and Jolley should have been kept instead of Henneman and deserve a chance.
How come Henno (and Bolton and Reynolds) gets so many years, when the above mentioned players and many others (Cupido, Alvey, Thomas, Zantuck, etc.) don't.
On a related issue - Ahley McGrath may leave Brisbane. Only 23. Worth getting?
