It was in the Age today that Carlton have officially told him and they're apparantly going to offer him a 3-4 year deal.

Any speculation is well and truly over.

Wow Carlton...you are going to offer him a 3-4 year deal, he;s under no obligation to sign anything over a 2 year deal.

Just because you offer it doesn't mean he's going to fall over himself to sign it.

Lets fly Mark Murphy over there to convince him that Carlton will be a good team.

Got the makings off a good midfield with Walker, Murphy and probably Gibbs, but they will be nowhere near as good as they would if something resembling a decent ruckman on the list.

Besides if Gibbs' Dad as any control over him whatsoever, he'll be going back to Adelaide in two years time, and really at the moment Carlton don't have the team, culture or stability to make anyone overly confident of their long term viability either on or off the field.

Take Gibbs complain when he goes home in 2 years time, you still don't have a decent ruckman and Luenberger is tearing it up for another team you idiots.

See, this is why Caroline Wilson is a fool. You cant give a rookie a 4 year deal, they can only get a 2 year deal.

Tried to.

Rumour was that Collingwood were offering him the same, but under AFL rules, they couldnt.

Im pretty sure thats the rules anyway, its to avoid the farce that happened in the NBA with Glen Robinson.

I think you are actually allowed to offer them any length of contract you want, but it has to be at least two years.

Not many clubs want to offer anyone more than 2 though because there's no telling how well they'll be able to manage the step up to AFL level.

Nah that would make too much sense for Sheedy.

We need a key position backman so we will probably be taking Joel Selwood at number 2.

Which I wouldn't mind if we can be sure he was over his knee injury.

But really, the top end key position players in this draft are just to good to pass up...and there will still be very promising midfielders available at 18 and 20.

Better be Hansen/Gumbleton with pick 2...with me leaning strongly towards Hansen.

Naah we're re-drafting Henno so why bother with either of these two...

Actually this could get interesting.

gibbs offered 3-4 year deal.

Gibbs refuses.....

Does carlton take the punt on him staying longer than 2 years?

If not, do WE take that punt?

Yes, we're Essendon.

We back ourselves that he'll want to stay at our great club.

I can think of plenty far more concrete reasons why she is a fool.

Carlton F.C. knows that if they do not draft Gibbs the supporters will bloody crucify them.Anyway i am glad they're taking him,i'll be much happier with Lachlan Hansen or even a Scotty Gumbleton! We will win out big time in this years Draft.SO lets ALL get over this Gibbs obsession,he is not the be all and end all of Midfielders,we will get a great one or two on Nov.25th anyway!!!!!!!!!..............

Now that Gibbs is out of the equation we should be looking at the next best player in the draft regardless of height weight etc!
