I just saw Aker on the news and the story was all about how it's pretty likely that he'll end up at Essendon.

Still a lot of wheeling and dealing to be done first so we'll have to wait and see.

I think Lloydy would love to have him drilling passes in from the square.

To be honest, the first time I heard that Aka was on the market and might be coming to the Bombers, I thought, "shit. We don't need him". But the more I think about it, I think he would be great. teach a few of the young blokes and we could really use his finishing skills. As long as we don't give away any of our early draft picks, I would be happy to have him at our club!!

Just curious. He's got some serious talent, but with people crying out for youth and to stop the "band-aid" trades and drafts, how does picking up Akermanis fit in with that philosophy? If people are so convinced that we don't have a chance at being competitive (ie genuine flag contender) for at least a few years then it seems like we're just repeating the same methodologies to me.

I agree he'd be handy to pick up for the kids to learn from and would be useful on the park too, but I can't help but put him in the same category as picks like Allan, Murphy and Camporeale. All useful, but short term fixes for a long term problem... and I have a feeling that they didn't/haven't delivered in the "teaching" stakes either.

Yep, I reckon get him. He's a quality player, big mouth maybe, but as long as he can walk the walk, then let him talk the talk.

Those blokes werent three time premiership players, quick and won a brownlow.

Agree with what your saying, but Aker is Aker.

If Akermanis says he's got 4-5 years left in the tank, he would be the only player in the AFL I would believe. Because he has always backed up everything he says on the field (and with interest).

Get that no 3 jumper out of mothballs, seeing Henno won't be wearing it next year and put it on Aker.

Welcome to Windy Hill!

Even tho Aker is old, he's still got the skill and pace to match it with many younger guys. We would be stupid not to get him i think.

Certainly.

As much as we need to play young players, we also need to have the right balance to get a winning formula. Nothing wrong with a little bit of added flair. He is a great player, and the young guys will learn a lot from him. I'd love him in the red and black.

Of course we should. He is a class act, and dont underestimate the power of self beliefe that this man radiates. It will be great for our youngsters developement and attitude, whilst Lloyd and Johns will be powerhouses up forward with the supply from Acker and Monfries next year!!

Dont write a huge turnaround off. We will improve out of sight next year with the right trades and drafts. Acker is one of those right trades.

More than happy to have Aker at Essendon.

There is so much upside to his arrival - including having his wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on to our current and future youngsters.

Throw in a role as a starting small forward with time in the middle and you have a damn fine package.
