Yes, footballers are paid handsomely to ply their trade (i.e. be footballers), and yes, they are in the public eye (some more so than others...), but they are not paid to be role models because they are paid to be footballers!!!!!
Plebola is a moron, but let's face facts, there are quite a few in the football world that would fall into the same boat...and if anyone sees him or others of his ilk as role models, then they are surely barking up the wrong tree...I would rather look upto someone like Paul Roos, Michael Voss, Nathan Buckley, Adam Goodes, James Hird, Matty Lloyd, etc... who whilst some of them as players we despise and/or love, all work their arses off to be the best they can be on and off the field as opposed to looking to Plebola, Wanker Carey, G'Ablett Snr & co as role models...

I think the "role model" label comes with the territory. It is because you have very young kids who will wear their "idol's" number on their back regardless of what he does off field. No matter what destructive crap they get up to, these kids will always hold onto these guys as "idols"

THE Brisbane Lions has refused to say if it regrets employing Brendan Fevola following allegations of indecent behaviour.
Fevola has been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation into an incident in a park, in which it is claimed he exposed himself to a mother-of-four.
In a statement this afternoon the Brisbane Lions Football Club said it was investigating the alleged incident, as is the AFL.
AFL general manager Adrian Anderson said this afternoon the League was disappointed to be dealing with such claims.
"The nature of the complaint is... it concerns an allegation of indecent behaviour towards the woman involved," Mr Anderson said.
He said the AFL would work with Queensland police and the Brisbane Lions to investigate the claims.
It is believed Fevola and two other Lions players were at a non-club charity function before the alleged incident took place.
Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers said in the statement a man rang the club to complain about Fevola’s inappropriate behaviour towards his wife while the couple and two of their four children were at the non-club function.
After the man spoke to the Lions, the club notified the AFL, and then Queensland police were called.
Mr Bowers said if the allegations were found to be true, the behaviour was unacceptable.
“Respect and responsibility towards women is something that this Club thinks is non-negotiable. We feel that the allegation is a very serious one and we think if the behaviour is as described, then it's unacceptable behaviour for anyone in football," Mr Bowers said.
“While everyone is entitled to the presumption of innocence, the Brisbane Lions Football Club wants to make clear it is taking this incident seriously and feels the only proper course of action is to suspend Brendan immediately from all Club activity until such time as the AFL and police have had an opportunity to investigate the matter further."
“The Club will continue to cooperate fully with the AFL and any Queensland police investigation.
“As a result of the suspension, Brendan will not be attending our Club Champion event tomorrow night.”
