The questions suggests that it must be a player from the 80's onwards as before then all finals were played on a Saturday.

In the very first game of football between Scotch College & Melbourne Grammar played on the Richmond Police Paddocks (Yarra Park) where were both sets of goalposts and also how long did the match last for?

Didn't it last for two weeks? The rule was you had to het to two goals?
