Sad to hear. Much as I hate the Filth he was one of best characters the game has ever seen :(

Yep, RIP Lou.

My greatest time following the game was in my teens when we were a powerhouse in the 80's. I can remember those days with great clarity, and how I was obsessed with the game. There was nothing better than attending the game on Saturday, rushing home to watch the 7 Replay and listening to Lou and Peter Landy commentate the highlights. Then it was awesome to wake up on a Sunday to watch World of Sport and be entertained for a couple of hours or so - coaches corner, what's your decision, the handball comp, the woodchop, and all the banter with Lou leading it all. Bloody fun stuff. Life was good 8)

Not forgetting League Teams on a Thursday night when that was the only way you'd find out the ins and outs for the weekend. It was a pisser listening to Lou cracking jokes, Bob Davis just pissing himself laughing at everything, and Jack Dyer completely butchering names like Dipierdomenico, Duperouzel, Kourkoumelis, Groenewegen, Malarkey, Schimmelbusch etc

Loved the way Lou commentated the game. Just had a great voice for it, and added his own flavour to the passages of play. I can still remember the time Peter Johnston for Geelong was lining up for goal about 5 metres out from goal on a slight angle and Lou saying "He'll have to fall over to miss this!" And of course, he fell over and missed it...
Unfortunately, you can't drown a witch!

that "fall over to miss it" line - also happened to Paul Salmon (although perhaps I'm mistaken).
another great line was "he's on such a tight angle the ball might get stuck between the posts".

great man, great character.
