THE AFL BIG YES SIGN

Post by mdso » Thu Sep 21, 2017 4:20 pm

The AFL have been forced to re-consider and take down its YES sign after many complaints from AFL clubs and their members. It remains to be seen whether the Sherrin's used in the games this weekend will have YES written on them. H'm they might have NO, who knows?

Interesting as something which was meant to unite the community has created so much division. It is also interesting as totally unrelated subjects have been bought to the fore as a result of this YES/NO vote such as transgender and books in primary schools which have nothing to do with this vote. What else will change as a result of this vote and a number of imaginings which have nothing to do with the vote. Churches influencing their parishioners and telling them how they would prefer they vote NO.

The one thing which is interesting is how much homophobia has been dredged up from hidden places and is now emerging and how the media and others are cashing in on this fear.
Nothing usually happens until something happens.

The community responses seen so far were all predicted months ago. No surprises whatsoever.
