Saw the same thing. No idea if true or not.
Maybe try checking a Cats forum on Facebook for more info.

Oh how I long for the days of the "Truth" ... so many puns spring to mind based on the club, the position description of the staff member and the "hub"

The Truth was ace. Particularly Page 3.

I remember a couple of headlines that have stuck with me...

“BARASSI ON DRUGS”

First glance you go “f****** whaaaat???” Then you read the first couple of paragraphs and you realise it’s about Ron Barassi talking on the topic of drugs. LOL

Then there was this story about a psychiatric patient who had escaped from a psychiatric facility. While on the run, he sexually assaulted a woman in a laundromat, and was still on the run.

The headline read:

“NUT SCREWS WASHER AND BOLTS”

Perhaps the most famous Truth headline was "Snedden died on the job" when he was found dead in a Travelodge motel after having sex with an ex-girlfriend of his son.

Heart Balm was my fave front of paper section. I am intrigued to find that only half the stories were made up by the journos.

Thing about the Truth was it has outstanding VFL reporting and and even better racing form guide. My Nana used to buy the rag weekly for these two sections (she was a semi-professional gambler who made a reasonable income from the GG's) ... so I pretty much always had access to it. 8)

My folks used to own a factory, with our residence next door.
I'd sneak into the factory tearoom on weekends to browse The Truth copies that the employees had bought and left there.
