Scott Lucas
What is everyone's opinion on trading Scott Lucas? There is no doubting he has been and ia very good center half forward. However I've alwasy thought his weaknesses are his presence and that when a smaller, more athletic player is one him, he gets beat.
With Lloyd in the side and a few more tall KPP coming through do you think it would be a good idea to trade Lucas? Not for anything that get's offered but for the right offer.
We could easily get some talented medfielder's from the Bulldogs, or even a hard bodied ball winner from West Coast.

trade our best and fairest winner from last year? who when in form beats nearly anyone on their day?
NO. drafting and delisting is all that essendon needs to do considering we are positioned in the bottom half of the league.
Obviously you listen to trade proposals, but not in your right mind would you offer up Scott.

Scotty Lucas has had a number of clubs offer him big dollars over the years and has always stood by the club. In these days of rampant commercialism of the game, it is good to see that sort of loyalty and it should not be rewarded by having him traded for another club's offcasts.Essendon4eva wrote:Lucas is about to hit his twilight. He is about 30 years old and doesn't have alot of time left. Consider also, that we are trying to devlop a team for the next year years, and he will be retired by then. I would rather get some quality for him then let him retire and get nothing for him.
If we were stupid enough to get rid of him, who is going to kick the 50+ goals that he has contributed over the last few years.
Also, he is one of only a very small number of players to win our B & F twice and what would trading him say about our club and it's capacity to honour those who truly deserve it.
If we can get a midfielder by trading, then do it with a less productive and less loyal player, otherwise keep trying to get it right via the draft.

If someone offers a player without those qualities, then don't do the trade. I'm not talking about getting a few average players for him. I'm talking about quality players. ALso we are a devloping team? With a guy named Gumbelton, who in 4-5 years will be kicking that many goals. However with a Lucas trade we may have a mefeilder with good enough skills, to see Lloyd kicking 80-90 goals a year.
I repeat, Lucas is a class player and we should onyl make the trade for another class player. Itis the reason I suggest West Coast and the Dogs, because they have alot of polished medfeilder, who we need more than a KPP.

Why would West Coast want him? They will then havea superstar center half forward and not have to rely on that hack in Lynch. Maybe we get a guy like Pridis or Rosa. Two ball winners, who are playing behind Cousins, Judd, Kerr, plus they are young and could flourish wiht the extra responsibility. From the Doggies we could get Daniel Cross, Lindsey Gilbee, just off the top of my head.
I know alot of AFL fans are except to get alot of nothing, but you have to give away something. And it was said by the board when the sacked SHeed's, that Lucas was part of a group that won't be around in 4-5 years.

Had me looking up dictionary.com for that one Jimmy...you're such an erudite fellowjimmyc1985 wrote:Brilliant. Hang on to Sheedy, don't consider trading McPhee, but get rid of Scott Lucas.
Your intelligence is recondite in its splendour, to say the least.

And so your loyalty to Sheedy does not follow on to one of our best players of the last 20 years.Essendon4eva wrote:Why would West Coast want him? I think I'll just stick with Scotty thanks.

And McPhee has to stay to. Ignore his crap form and blame it all on injuries. Sure some of it has to do with injuries but that excuse is the reason we're starting to get where we are.Rossoneri wrote:Trade Lucas and keep Sheedy?
Turn it up.
No body wants to believe we're simply no good anymore. To busy making excuses.

Sheeds - Cannot trade a coach. It si not like when he calls it quits you then get nothing for him.
McPhee - Reason I said he shouldn't be traded is because in 2004 he was a B&F and then got OP. SO I thought wanting to trade a yojng guys based on form was not good enough. So I though he should be giving a go next season under a new coach.
My reason for Lucas - We can get alot in return which will help us the next 10 years. If he stays the development of Gumbelton slows down and once he is gone in 3 years we get nothing in return.
