The Comprehensive Target List

Post by rama_fan »

I'm about to post every AFL player on every AFL club list, between now and trade week I'll keep deleting names until we have what we think is a realistic list of people for Essendon to target.

The Rules

1. All players over the age of 26 will be automatically deleted. If people feel this age is too young I'll change it, but I feel in the best interests of the club, we shouldnt be trading for someone over the age of 26.

2. Every player who has previously been on Essendon's list will be automatically deleted.

3. All players who have signed a contract in the last 12 months can't be considered, so therefore will be deleted.

4. All unrealistic targets will be deleted by negiotation and discussion.

From this we should have a list of players that can be discussed at will and then deleted once we have collectively agreed to it, as with most cases majority rules.

Hopefully by the end of this we should have about 30ish players or so that we can target that will be of great benefit to the Essendon Football Club in the future.

Deleted so far:

- All retired players that are confirmed (could have missed some)
- All players that have previously played at Essendon.

If we decide on a good maximum age I'll start deleting all older players.

Also maybe a good way to discuss and debate is club by club??

over 26s can be deleted, sounds like a good age limit to me. Anyone over 26 will probably have their own dedicated thread elsewhere, eg "TRADE LLOYD FOR CRAWFORD".

Along similar lines we could probably delete the top 3-5 players from each team, as these types of blockbuster trades just never happen in the AFL.

Unless anyone disagrees we could probably delete the rookies as well, don`t reckon there`s much to choose from there.

Some rookies are contracted for 2 years so we can't get them anyway.

All rookies need to be drafted anyway - they can't be traded for.

The idea of this thread is to keep all such talk about trading players in one thread. This shall be the one stop shop for all talks regarding players.

I'm happy to keep some over 26's on the list provided that people can provide quality justification as to why we should try to acquire them.

I'll give people a few days to discuss the age limit, then we can start deleting like crazy!!

Never going to happen. E4Eva and Robbie will continue to have their lovers quarrel and then Gringo will start a pointless thread regarding the poor grammar we use.

We need to focus on midfielders this year as our forward line is pretty good with the young forwards we have, some young defenders to eventually take over from Fletch and Michael would be good.

Our own Danny Chartes is looking good in this category for the long term.

Haselby could be up for grabs because Freo want him to take a pay cut.

Only 26, could be a good pick up if the Johnsons are going to go.

It is actually Chartres (ie. 2 "i"s) and is pronounced chart-ers.

Lee only has only played 3 quarters of AFL level in defence (I reckon he looked really good for 2 and then S Rocca pushed him around a bit - fair enough, he is so strong and it was Lee's first game) and could be an option. He played well up forward this week, but with Lloyd, Lucas and Gumbleton and Johns, no point in him playing forward next year.

Our list is getting shorter and shorter - keep giving me names to delete.

Also if we feel like we have some obvious targets then maybe I could put them in bold?

I read today that Kosi is still out of contract. St.Kilda used a lot of resources to secure Riewoltd and Dal Santo. There can't be much money left in the salary cap, do you reckon we could transform Kosi into a CHB?

We probably have no room up forward with Lloyd/Lucas and then Gumbleton/Neagle developing, but maybe Kosi could be used a back up ruckman or CHB?

I reckon he is worth the right price.

do you really think we will do much trading?

I've got a feeling we might just delist and draft.

Kosi would certainly be a worthwhile pickup.

If we could get him for Hille that would be awesome. Not sure if St Kilda would take that though.

I agree Tom....and even if we do trade, it will probably only be for one player.

I'd much rather build through the draft.

Kosi has been in the system a long time. 2001 Rising Star. Injury prone... brilliant on his day but spends more time off the park than on it.

I don't see him as a CHB type, but rather a forward if he's not played in the ruck. Not sure how well he would improve our list if he came, so probably a no from me.
