Josh Thurgood delisted by Hawks

Just read that Josh Thurgood has been delisted by the hawks. he is only 22 and has had some injury concerns, but the kid can take a grab down back and for mine, is the most promising player confirmed available in the PSD to date.

Luke Brennan, Pick 8 in 2002 draft has also been dropped. He has great skills by foot, but I think is too slow and doesnt get enough of the pill.

What you guys think?

Interesting....all i remember about Thurgood is the red dreadlocks, and him being absolutely smashed 3 or 4 times per game because he was skinny as a rake. The Hawks have so many young 'uns between the age of 18-23 that anyone not up to scratch is getting the boot, so perhaps he was just at the wrong club at the wrong time. In saying that, i know he's not big enough to take a KPP spot, and i don't remember him as having particularly great disposal skills (which is what we desperately need in our defence), so i can't see him fitting in.

As for Brennan, i can't even remember what he looks like. But if all the kids that Hawthorn drafted from 03-05 have overtaken him on the pecking order, hence his delisting, then you've got to question his ability.

The name Thurgood fits in very well at Essendon. But then again, so did Reynolds.....

I don't know enough about him to form a solid opinion. Not many stand out in the Hawthorn unit, and if they have just dumped him, you would have to have some concerns.

Can be rookied so I would go down that path before drafting him.

Harry Miller was on that list of lads that got the boot as well.

He wants to go back to SA. Mates with Burgoyne brothers.

Melbourne have delisted 3 players as well. But only Nick Smith would be any good for us to have a look at. Had a look on their AFL website and he's not to bad for height and size. But don't know much about him myself.

Josh Thurgood, isn't his claim to fame is that Lloydy caved his face in with his armguard when he was coming back from his broken arm in 2005?

I've seen Thurgood play live three times, and all three times was smashed into next week. It seems to be his thing.

Do you think his commitments with Frenzal Rhomb may interfere with his footy? I know they are touring a little less these days, but still...

Pity about Miller, he could have been handy. I haven't seen much of him, but he looked talented.

Wasn't Nick Smith that ruckman who came into the team for the first time in 3 years in a semi-final? I beleive he got thrashed by Sandilands (who wouldn't?). No need for more ruckmen.

And to stay on topic, Thurgood should not be picked up by Essendon. To skinny to play key-position in defence, so no good there. No role as a forward with Lloyd, Lucas and Johns.

I was actually thinking he could play the role as 3rd tall behind fletcher and lucus in the backline, leaving McPhee and NLM to play on shorter running players who they can dominate in the air.

I'm sure Thurgood could play a similar role to Jacobs, as he is tall and mobile, can take a grab and has pace for a man his height as well as being a fair reader of the ball. From what I have seen his footskills were ok. I didnt see him turn over the ball every time he touched it like some on our team.

Admittedly he doesnt have much on him and gets pushed around, but he is still young. IMO he is best available ATM but admittedly there will be others coming up in the next few weeks im sure.

Lucas should not be in the backline.

Lee CHB. Want a third tall other than McPhee? Play Lucy. He can play on key position players and run well. No point in having a third tall who can't play KP. I don't consider NLM a "tall" player.

Dont see what he would bring to the club. Havent been impressed with what Ive seen of him. Would also have to question why Hawthorn dropped him?

Please, we are going to get rid of Henneman, no need to replace one hack with another.

None of those blokes are any good.

Sorry, I didn't state my reason about Nick Smith. He is 196cm (not ruckmen size, so he was out of his fight division from the start) and 97kgs. On the Melbourne website, he is said to be KPP and talented but they have got good KPPs already, so they don't need him and they have given him a chance to go somewhere else.

As for Thurgood, he is very courageous from what I have seen of him, but like Ferguson at Melbourne, may be too courageous at times. More injury prone than his worth. IMO

Maybe we could rookie Thurgood or Brennan but that is as far as it should go.

Ian Prendergast and Trent Sporn have been cut by the Blues... would they be any good for the club, im thinking of Prendergast in particular.

If he struggles to get a game at Carlton, I don't see how he could help us.

We'd be better off taking a kid.

Ian Prendergast - The Next Kouta!

Seriously this is shaping as one of the worst Pre-Season Drafts on record.

Notting would be the only valuable addition to our side, if not we might as well take the next best kid, which is effectively about Pick No.85 in the National draft.
