Luenberg (or whatever his name is) then, I reckon.

Seems like it, unless Carlton gives up Gibbs.

Even so I reckon we might get him.

This "pick the best player available" notion is rubbish. We don't need another ruckman. We need midfielders and key position backs. If you have gaping holes like we do, that should be the focus. The only exception is if there is a major gap between the players in terms of ability, which there isn't.

Gibbs or Hansen should be the focus of our first pick. Will receive either the best midfielder or best backman in the draft.

i suppose he cant really come out and say we are targeting such and such... they will pick the best player available for the gaps we need to fill...

Gibbs or Hansen

Didn't mention it before because of the source...unfounded rumour on Bigfooty

but it was suggesting that Essendon had committed themselves to Matthew Luenberger.

However, now seeing this quote from Dodoro, I reckon their is a fairly good chance it will prove to be true.

If we pass on Lachlan Hansen, the Dodo should be made extinct once and for all. [-X

everything I have read about Leuenberger is that he is an absolute star in the making.

who says a 200cm bloke who has foot speed of a midfielder could not play off the half back line if required??

Why are we always soooooo obsessed about getting big men? (like, really really big men?)

That statement from Dodoro is rubbish. He has always been of the opinion that you take a good big man over a good small man every time. Only there are a few problems with that - our midfield is in serious trouble, and most of the big men he's picked up haven't been any good.

If we get another ruckman, what is the point of getting or keeping Paddy Ryder and Jason Laycock?

We need a CHB and a couple of quality midfielders.
Hansen, Gibbs or Selwood thanks.

I still think Hansen should be our first priority. Our defence needs alot of work.

If this is true then Dodoro is an imbecile of the highest order. Essendon already have Hille, Chook and Ryder (who they got last year FFS) and delisted one ruckman this year.

The club has a gaping hole at CHB and the midfield stocks could do with a boost. This is one of the best opportunities in years to get the required players to boost the list and they want to throw the number 2 pick after the type of player they already have enough of.

From what I've heard Dodoro also pumped up Armitage but theres no way we would use pick 2 on him at least I hope not

Denis Pagan says "that the club will use it's No.1 pick at next month's NAB AFL Draft on the most talented player, regardless of the type of player or where he hails from."

Dodoro says ""We'll take the best player, irrespective of their position."

Ho hum, rhetoric and cliche bullshit. Those comments go without saying and they actually say nothing.

Our midfield problems exist because three top 20 picks in three consecutive drafts (Davies, Harvey, Winderlich) have failed to come on. If those three had come on decently they'd be aged ~24, 23 and 22 next year, and add a lot to the midfield.

In the period 2000 to 2002, out of 4 top 20 picks we used 3 on smalls.

Its the same shit as "we will take each game one week at a time".

These guys are not going to put there "cocks on the blocks" by making statements to the media.

Relax poeple we will know soon enough!! 8)

We need a center half-back and quick medfeidlers. We have David Hille and Laycock who have been improving adn quite capable ruckmen. SO we are going to stack up on ruckmen? Honestly, I would be chocked if we took this ruckman, no matter how good he is.
