Do we have picks in the upcoming Pre-season and Rookie Drafts?

With the advent of free agency the PSD is completely pointless now and provides no other purpose than to force clubs to allow themselves to be shafted if one of their players wanted to be traded to one of the poorer onfield clubs with the threat of losing them for nothing in the PSD. (Eg Western Bulldogs f****** us over with a mid 2nd round pick for Crameri).

Emma Quayle is tweeting that it is looking like there is only going to be one selection in the PSD with GWS taking Jed Lamb, and then every other club (5 or so) who have a senior spot available on their list passing on their pick, thus allowing them to pick up an extra rookie.

Given they are then short of numbers on their senior list they are able to upgrade a rookie to their senior list at the start of season without having to have anyone on their Long Term Injury List. Thus it gives them an entire preseason and practice games to make an informed decision on which of their rookies they believe will provide the most value to them on the senior list.

I'm not really sure I want us to recruit Jolly.

Just something not sitting right with me on this. :?:

As a rookie, it doesn't matter. It's an insurance policy in case Belly or Ryder go down.

Jolly has less to offer us than Hille did this year.

Look at Collingwood, not only did the prefer to play a 18 year old rookie ruckman as there only recognised ruckman for much of the back half of the season (including their final) and they also choose to keep an older ruckman in Ben Hudson (who was nowhere near as a good as ruckman as Jolly when they were both at their peaks) as backup over him.

Body is completely shot, and currently he would probably be able to make Clive Palmer look atheletically superior.

After playing with Patty Ambrose for years, i'm that happy that he's ended up at the bombers on a rookie list.

For a 6.4ft bloke who can run 16+ in a beep test and sub 6minute 2km, he's going to be awesome down at the Dons. Gives plenty as a bloke and good to see another Xav at the dons. (The new Sydney?) Once he gets his kicking right he could be anything! That happy for him!

Ahhh ... but when you check his page on his club's list ... sounds like he'd be a better fit with GWS ... and be happy to live there

Dodoro commented in reference to Patrick Ambrose that he will come to the club and be the best athlete at the club.

Either he has forgotten that we have recruited Johnny Rayner, or that is a pretty big wrap for Ambrose.

He's 6 foot 4 and runs 16.8 in the beep test. Not sure if that would beat Rayner...

Both seem like good pick ups for rookies. Hopefully we won't need them next year.

Why do Carlton make it so easy to troll them.

They have given Cameron Wood a third chance at AFL level today. Bloke has proven twice before he ain't up to it.

Ahhh they're just making sure they have the Wood on them... sorry ... dad joke

Malthouse is gathering his faves around him ... Eddie better be careful - should Maxwell lose the captaincy, he will be at the baggers next year.

Ess VFL manager Matt Little has described Ambrose as another Stewart Crameri type!
