Surely Hartlett can be worth no more than picks 19 and the Hibberd Pick?

Unfortunately for Port their valuation of Ryder, arguably the better and more important player, demands a deal for Hartlett that is in a similar ballpark

If we can get him to publicly say we are his preferred destination, it will be hard for Port to say no.

I'm well aware of the contract situation. How many players haven't reached their club of choice in recent times?

Ryan O'Keefe nominated Hawthorn and didn't get there. Ended up staying in Sydney.

port have salary cap issues, so they have to let one of their high paid players go. thats my understanding at least. apparently they really butchered their cap.

Makes you wonder how in todays game? I think after the close loss to Hawthorn in that PF they thought they were close to a flag so pursued ryder hard thinking he will take them over the top. paying ryder around 800k would be worth it if they got a flag and they could deal with the cap squeeze later. maybe players would be willing to take cuts if on a premiership team.

2007 ... Sent to west Coast against his wishes for Judd while still under contract at Carlton. OK it was quite a while ago but he strongly opposed the trade.

That's not the same SD, he wasn't asking for a trade.

True but these days they don't even put players on the trade table if they are unwilling to move. The fact that this was so long ago, I think, supports your argument.

The Commission has set up an elaborate hoax that seems put the blinders over the public, but if a player wants to go some where and the deal to be done is not too extensive, it gets done (otherwise clubs wait). My guess is the AFL and clubs want to keep these matters out of court.

They also thought Dixon was a missing piece so gave him $700k.

We could also wait until next year when there is probably more chance of him coming across to us. He is NOT worth our number 1 draft pick.

I don't think anyone is suggesting we trade pick 1 for him.
