Would be really surprised if they let Martin go without huge compensation though. I predict the Suns will soon turn into an old mens club for people going up there for the drugs and the beach and retirement. I cant imagine anyone giving them any serious thought as a competitive club with a credible future. As it is, everyone else is just hoping like Hell they can play them twice in a season.

Would hate to be Shiel now. Has to jilt a few brides at the altar after giving mixed messages in the past few weeks (a lot of which could be put down to bad reporting.) Blues are definitely backing off and vague about their chances whilst scrabbling furiously elsewhere for whatever they can get. Aints are full of bravado: Before, they said they were front runners but wouldn't need to sacrifice their first Round pick for Shiel. Now someone there says this morning that they would. But they are hedging their bets and making alternative plays elsewhere too, so it sounds like the wheels falling off to me.
Don't think the Dawks are willing to give up enough for him, so I only hope to f*** we are. Go Dodoro!

I will be very surprised if Shiel leaves GWS (as much as I would be happy to see him at Essendon) . I suspect the reason Carlton went hard at Setterfield was largely due to Shiel not being available.

I think Martin remains our best chance but we will have to pay overs

Still think we will take our draft picks and be content with that.

I believe we attract the letter ‘S’

So Shiel and Setterfield will be in Red & Black in 2019. We might even get Peter Siddle if we’re lucky.

Carlton have guaranteed Setterfield midfield time (silly that).

Gold Coast would only be interested in our pick 8 given they currently have Picks 2, 3 (likely Lynch compensation), 18 (WC trade from 2017), 26, 29 (from us for Saad), 38 and 41. There may be further early pick/s if May goes south.

No way known they will use all these unless there is a massive clean out (note they are getting Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis). Currently they have lost Barlow, Lynch and Rosa and 3 rookies and are moving Rischetelli to a rookie spot. So at the moment, they have 2 spots on the Senior list and 2 rookies (I know its a bit more complex than that ... but its the vibe OK?).

So a trade for Martin may involve swaps for picks (eg 8 for 18) but its a bit fuzzy at this stage. Depends on how ruthless Dew is in clearing out semi-committed players.

Setterfield has "nominated" Carlton.

Whoever we want? We will probably end up with no one because we have a reputation of playing hard ball. We have to be prepared to give something up to get what we want. Will we? Probably not. I think we over value some of our players therefore never the twain shall meet.
I will be indeed surprised and delighted if we do a good trade. But; I've got a feeling it isn't going to happen for us this year.

Now clear the decks for Martin - (if we've got anything left.) We're on a roll but I'm not that hopeful they'll let him go.

Fans of other clubs on twitter are numb. Dawks were favourites and we were long-shots in their eyes. They just cant understand the drawing power of Essendon, particularly after last year's effort with the 3 S's too. Tell you what - I'd love to be Woosha, yet I'd hate to be him. There isn't a reason in the world why our list wouldn't be top 4 next year, (particuilarly if we get Martin too) - unless it's the coach.

Best comment from a Scum fan: "As a Carlton supporter, what is the best position to cry in regarding Shiel choosing Essendon?"

Another, commenting on the reporting: "Shit happens but how come not one of these AFL Flogs got even close on guessing this?"

Finally, a Dawk... "As if Essendon fans weren't bad enough before this. Strap yourself in folks."

Do not under-estimate the power of Sheeds in attracting the pioneer GWS players to Essendon. I'd have him a nose and a bottle of red ahead of Dodoro in getting Sheil over the line... that and Stewart and Smith (I believe that the Dawks have no ex-GWS players on their list).

Well he is on his way... yippee!!!

Yes of course. We had connections everywhere and the ammunition to seal the deal. Will be amazing to see the 3D's together, Dylan, Devon and Dyson. I predict a huge Bomber future for this guy! :D Plus I think our club and Dodoro just skyrocketed in the respect stakes - much needed. Plus the drawing power for future trades after that. We're Baaaaack as far as I'm concerned. :D :D

What do people think about Ceglar as a ruck? Could be available. Boots a few occasionally.

Contracted to the end of 2019. Averages per game (over past 3 seasons) about 10 disp, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 1/2 a goal, 21 hitouts and 2.5 clangers. Clearly backup or occasional chop-out standard only.

I don't see the point.
