Surely Patton is worth about $5 these days. Absolutely risk and liability.
I'll see your Patton with a JD and raise you a Fantasia...

Getting kids won’t work.

We’re supposed to be in the age demographic of challenging for a flag now. Daniher and Fantasia are mid 20’s with 100 games experience. Replacing them with early draft picks will take 5 years to mature. By then, we’ll have 30+ year old hacks getting ready for retirement.

We saw what our forward line is like without both Daniher and Razz. It’s ordinary at best. Never going to win you a final let alone a flag.

If I were EFC, I would pressure Swans to deal with Papley as a swap - despite his stupid desire to join the Blues. f*** ‘em. You want JD, we want Papley + a pick. Getting Papley would be a good replacement for Fantasia.

Port won’t part with Wines. He’s off limits. The likely trade will be with Powell-Pepper.

Now if we can land Cameron... 8)
As i said, not sure which strategy is the best one. But i do worry that we really dont have any stand out kids coming through the ranks. We are going to have to go to the draft at some point....if we had 3 Top 10 picks, that point may be now and we chase free agency next year for one or two senior stars....maybe even Cameron.

Regardless of our demographic, our current ajar window, I doubt it's going to open much more. With key players wanting to leave, the team isn't as settled as they should be to challenge anything.

Hooker and Hurley are in our future for just a year or so more as age and injuries slow them down. For the ultimate effectiveness, they need a firing forward line. The current forward tall targets are fill in plodders really. I like their endeavour, but they need to be more.

Our small backs are elite.
Our midfield could be, but isn't.The ruck is a shamozzle.
Walla is the shining light in the forward zone.

Injury has robbed this team of their chance, which might've been 2019. The complacent start in 18 & 19 had me thinking they had their Crows hat on, expecting it to happen. It doesn't work that way.

We want hard working skillful & strong key position players. We need players that don't read and believe their own good press. They need to listen to home truths and the coaches need to set and stick to strict expectations. Individuals need to focus on now, not the possibilities. Learn your job, do your job, week by week. The rest will take care of itself to a degree.

The 2000 team was focused. They had their ego spanked in the '99 PF. They expected things to evolve in '99, but they made sure it did in '00. How do we get that attitude back? Collectively this current team doesn't deserve to carry anything but a normal ego.

Aiden Bonar from GWS

Looks a prospect as an inside mid.
GWS wanting Top 30 pick.
Let's offer them our pick 31 - and steak knives if needed

LOL - I'm sure you have Google, but anyway....

Born to a Scottish father and Papua New Guinean mother, Aiden Bonar became a GIANT with the club’s first pick at the 2017 NAB AFL Draft (pick 11). Bonar is a powerfully built, versatile tall who excels at stoppages and has a burst of speed away from congestion. He is strong overhead and very competitive and after overcoming two ACL injuries during his junior football career. Bonar had an impressive debut season in 2018, kicking five goals in four games.
188cm, 87kg, 20 y.o. Played 6 games with GWS, only 2 in 2019.

Love it

188cm is hardly a ‘tall’ these days. Unless he’s grown several centimetres since.

Sounds an interesting prospect.

Bonar came highly rated - played 2 games this year. Played like shit. Hardly touched it and butchered the ball. Best games were in 2018 vs Carrlton and Adelaide.

With a Scottish dad and a New Guinean mother, he'd probably be better signing up with the Storm =;

Now you're onto something!
He's a good size, only 20, drafted Number 11.
Sooo...surely EFC can de-develop him :)

Well that’s a vote of confidence in a good player,on the verge of giving it all away a year or so ago.Completely frustrated at not getting a look in at Draft Time.

Can someone please explain the big attraction is with St Kilda? Maybe some players figure that the AFL will manufacture another in the wilderness fairytale. They helped the Dogs win in 2016 , Richmond for past three, Melbourne

Surely they can’t land all 5 that have nominated St Kilda as their destination. Even if they do surely that means the Saints will need to off load some.

They're offloading Jack Steven and Josh Bruce. Not sure if anyone else.
Hill is their only real serious recruit in waiting. Maybe Howard. But Ryder, Jones & Butler are chump change in trade week.

Less than 50% of those who nominate a club actually wind up there, so don't worry too much about this part of the process.

The attraction of St Kilda is a combination of salary cap room (so the agent and player can pump up their asking price more - which is an oddly anti-competitive aspect of nominating a club), having a shit list so the players are likely to get games without too much competition (again upping their price and getting them eligible for bonus payments) and expectations are low, so there aint too much pressure on players coming to the club.

There is also a cleanout happening at the Saints with Pierce, Longer, Rowe and Armitage confirmed to be leaving. White, Rice and Brown are likely to leave. Roberton and McCartin are unlikely to play again. Acres is trying to leave and Carisle is on the trade block as too inconsistent and hard work off field. Steven is also looking to move.

As an example - Dougal Howard would have little competition at the Saints for a spot and will likely wind up one of the top 10 paid players. The only competetion he has for a tall defender are Brown (too old - 31 next year), Carsisle (inconsistent) and Marsh (mid-year selection, solid but hardly AFL best 22 standard).

Were he to come to EFC, he would need to compete with Hurley, Hooker, Francis, Hartlett and now BZT for the two or three tall defender positions - meaning he would have to work much harder than at St Kilda and wouldn't be guaranteed senior games.

Of the clubs in a similar position to St Kilda, Gold Coast is too far away, Carlton, Sydney and Melbourne have a swag of young players and experienced in place and not much salary room, Adelaide is a mess and has no coach in place, and North has a reputation of overpaying their existing list (so not much in the kitty) and shit facilities.

Well, that's my take on it.
