The Marty Party is over

Post by nudder12 »

Bye bye Martin Gleeson.
Not offered a contract for 2022.

I reckon we could have held on to him, but maybe it was his choice not to accept whatever was offered?

Yep, no matter how ordinary he was at times, we found ourselves falling back on him time and time again when the injuries and absences came. And sometimes he made a pretty good job of it. So if we seriously wanted to ditch him, I guess we must be confident of an alternative arrangementn the future. Will be interesting to see. If there an important trade replacement on the way or did he pull the plug on us after an unsatisfactory offer?

Surely recruiting Kelly's stronger body and consistent history had some influence?

Gleeson isn't a bad footballer, he's just not quite got the kgs.

I think he would have been lucky to get many games, but would have been good for depth and for the VFL team.
Maybe that's not where he sees his future.

Agree. That's why I think he may have pulled the plug

That's the guts of it!!! His weak frame actually cost us games as he could not hold tackles and was easily brushed aside.
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

I thought he was an honest toiler. Gave everything of himself. Was a good interceptor and generally clean user of the ball.

Well played Meaty Gleeson!
