The Gold Coast Football Club (sorry Filth)
Red, white, blue and yellow, no nickname as yet. Mascot seems to be a... lifeguard?
THey'll clash with Adelaide for sure. At least Freo and Port TRIED not to clash.

Very lame not to have some sort of name. The bid to attract those ever impressionable young kiddies out there with "Gold Coast FC" will be one of the greatest marketing strategies in the history of the game... Or. Maybe not.

With all those Juicy Draft picks, time to go back there.

LOGO looks like an easy listening FM radio station - ghastly
Re: The Gold Coast Football Club (sorry Filth)
They need a name of some sort. They need to build some sort of brand recognition and diferentiation. There will be a fair bit of confusion otherwise. The A League is putting a team there soon and Gold Coast Football Club or Gold Coast FC sounds a bit too much like a soccer team for me.
Re: The Gold Coast Football Club (sorry Filth)
Why not just call them the GOLD COAST BEGGERS. After all, they will be receiveing years of charity.

Yes and now they are complaining that they won't be competitive in their first few years!BenDoolan wrote:Why not just call them the GOLD COAST BEGGERS. After all, they will be receiveing years of charity.

On the Gold Coast - they'll never be competitive.
Just because it's a big growing market doesn't mean it will be successful. It's big and growing with Bogans and Oldies. No AFL culture - in fact in my experience - often vehemently anti-AFL.
Nope - a total and utter waste of money.
The launch is indicative of how it will all pan out.
Fat-gutted blokes without a clue!

I've turned into a big skeptic of the gold coast too, footy just doesn't work in a place where most people have the option of going to the beach.(and it being warm enough too). parents are more likely to send the kids to nippers.
In fact I have more optimism for western sydney than I do with the gold coast. At least in western sydney there is a strong football culture(albeit soccer and rugby league) and a large working class population(plenty of families).
meanwhile, we will probably lose one experienced uncontracted player at the end of 2009.
not looking forward to that. i hated when merrett went, and I hated when we lost wangas.

i wouldn't mind seeing their real life mascot though!!! A buff surf lifesaver in speedos lol!!
Their colours are too much like Adelaides though, they could have been a bit more original.

And I agree that logo looks shit.
Pretty much the same colors as the new NBA team, but they at least put in an effort with name and logo:

(Sorry I couldn't find a bigger pic)
Surely they could have spent a buck getting someone to design a proper logo? Looks like Downie and co whipped it up themselves over coffee.

I cannot see Gold Coast working. Lions - since they went off the boil - have the lowest membership base in the AFL. How they think adding another team to a state who clearly don't give a shit is going to improve it, I don't know.

Re: The Gold Coast Football Club (sorry Filth)
The really good news for the GC club is that no matter how badly they are going with memberships and crowd numbers they will still look like a massive success story compared to West Sydney.
Re: The Gold Coast Football Club (sorry Filth)
yes, two teams in Sydney may struggle. It'd be no surprise to me to see the WS plans relocated.
Last night, for a final, the Swans attracted less than 20K spectators. That's disgraceful. R. Walls blamed the weather, then the 'roos.
What would WS attract?
