Essendon vs Carlton Match Thread

Post by paddyl90 »

I feel nervous already and its only 1:07PM. BIGGEST GAME IN AGES! I am liking the fact that yet again scum are favourites which is great and the pressure is on. It is evident that they're scared and so are their supporters and I love it! I think we will win by 4 goals. They are going for a shutdown type of game to curb our run. Haha nice try. I can't see them changing their whole game style from carry and run free for all style of game to a sydney style shutdown crap. I think our midfield is really shapong up now Prismall and Welsh are back in. Well I am really confident of a win tonight and I don't like it cause the result doesn't end up being the same.

Can't wait to get to the game with 80,000 other people. Friday night at the MCG, packed ground, huge game. Looking forward to it immensely!

Looking forward to this one. So pissed off I have to work and will miss is :x Hoping Lloydy takes out Judd like he did a while back, Reimers 'reimers' a few of 'em and Fev trips over his huge chin (and massive ego) and tears his knee.

I think we'll win, but not terribly confident. We probably have the edge in all areas except in the midfield, however if we can curb Judd we'll go a lng way, cos he's such a barometer for them.

Ther nerves are certainly kicking in. Watson, Welsh and Hocking will be very important as they will be the ones who will need to get the ball out to Lovett, Winderlich and co.

Just about to get organised for the trip in to the "G". It really does not get any better than to meet the scum at the pinnacle of stadiums in front of 80k plus. All else aside, I believe that we are a better big occasion team and really thrive on the wide open spaces of the MCG.

In the words of the great EJ, "Let's stick it right up 'em!!!"
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark

Im nervous about tonight too and im not even going!! These matches are always huge but tonight in particular is just massive in terms of not only our season but bragging rights as well.

We need a lightening start and nullify the influence of Judd and Fev.

I'm nervous too. But its a good type of nervous. We are underdogs, which means there's no expectation. The underdog usually wins in these Scum games.

I'm excited.

I also would love to see some more of this:

Oooh good. So I'm not the only one who gets so angsty leading up to a Carlton game. I just... hate losing to these bastards. I'm sure I wasn't nervy in 2000, but this year it could go EITHER way. And god I hate losing to them. I'd rather lose to any other team in the AFL than Carlton.

(well I'd rather lose to none)

Hmm... Fev gets the first goal. Looks as though majority of the game is being played in Carlton's forward half so far.

3.20 to go and it's 16 v 9

And the Jobe effort with five to go in the first term was Hirdesque. f****** magnificent.

Fev is 1.1

In my opinion, we NEED to keep him shut down. If he kicks a bag, we are gone. If we keep him quiet, we win. That's the way I see it.

16 v 15 going into the first break. I think the scoreboard is accurate atm - the game is fairly even. We seem to have a more varied forward line on offer where as they are a bit Fev conscious, and Ryder is getting shoved around in the rucking contests around the ground but certainly doing quite ok in the middle.

NLM needs to learn to time his leaps. He could be mark of the year every year if he'd just learn TIMING.

Davey kicks the opening with a bit of help from Lovett - wanna see those two pull their fingers out and really get into it!

the Cloke kicker gets one back.

22 v 21.

Jobe having a good game thus far, Monfries quiet - could use him to pick it up.

Surprised Carlton haven't targetted Ryder yet to take him out.

Gus goals! And I think I'm here by myself. So I'll shut up until something noteworthy happens ;)

28 v 21.

We are all over them over the ground, but can't seem to do anything about it on the scoreboard.
