Sis, my comments were intended to be pure pathos.

I am reminded of the criticism that Sasha Baron Cohen received when he conceived Borat. Borat is seemingly a racist dolt. However, he is purely the vehichle that Cohen uses to highlight the complete naivety and stupidity of most people. Through his character Borat, he opens up the inherent prejudices in other people for all of us to see.

Remember the scene in Borat when he is forced to stay overnight in the house of the Jews. I mean, the guy is Jewish himself and as such he is simply demonstrating the ridiculousness of anti semitism.

Sis, I am not sure what you thought of my comments about the Indian guy needing to bulk up but let me assure you, it was intended to highlight the very stupidity of racist actions towards these people.

For what its worth, I work within an Indian community in the middle east and have an enormous respect for the people and their culture. I am a regular visitor to India and work closely with their government. And whatsmore, I love a nice rogan josh!!!

Remember, humour can be the best way of confronting prejudices - make the culprits of hate crimes, whether they be against Indians, Chinese, Muslims or even Handbag Carrying Pooftahs appear the imbeciles they are.

(ps - I wonder if you picked the subtle point in my post???)

David Neitz - 2003. Captain of the Melbourne Football Club gets into a drunken altercation with a cab driver outside Crown Casino at 3am. He did not lose the captaincy, he was not suspended, and the matter was dealt with "in house". There was no mention of the enthnic background of the cab driver as it was totally irrelevant to the incident.

And that's exactly how this case should be handled.

That's fine, but when their media brands our nation racist, then they are doing exactly that.

Why worry what the press write, it is the evidence presented in court (if it goes to court )
that counts not what some journo writes for sensationalism to sell newspapers.
There is a lot of hysteria about Indians in the press at the moment...get over it or go home.
India is one of the most racist country in the world, based on religion, cast and wealth.

People should learn from Fiji and the problems there.

Who said Australia was racist?
Last night in the Chinese restaurant I was in, a Greek Orthodox priest came in to get some take away.

BTW saying you hate/don't like Indians in general is racist. You can't argue with that.

Show me a country without a caste system. India is just more honest about it. Our whole system of governement is based on it!

Get over it or go home? That is exactly what the students are going to do, depriving us of a billion dollar industry. Hence us bending over backwards to placate them. Which is what worries me, a high profile sporting scapegoat would help Bumby's cause imensly.

Bumby was a typo, but when i read it, it seemed apropriate!

To be honest though, did you ever see our media brand Indonesia as a nation of racists after the Bali bombings? Nope, they just targeted the extremist terrorists responsible for the attacks.

Apart from the philosophical musings of sismis and the debate amongst other erudite BTers,
is there actually any news on the Hurley incident? Has he been charged?

Ah yes, that's why I branded it disgraceful, stupid and pathetic.

But that is an attack on their legal and justice system rather than accusing Indonesia of being racist. Anyway, I take your point.

And BD, there has been no futher news about the Hurley incident, and a comment from Robson was that no action will be taken by EFC until after Vic Pol have concluded their investigations.
