I think the fact is that in most games (in Melb), our fans are the majority and as such, are not suffering from underdog syndrome.. When you are travelling to another club's home ground, and you are a small group, you tend to gather together and make a lot of noise. I was watching the Man Utd vs Bayern Munich Champions league second leg play off the other night and it was amazing how loud 2,000 Bayern Munich supporters sounded against 74,000 Man Utd fans

Because the "home game" memberships only allow free entry to home games. You have to pay $20 or whatever it is for the away games for entry.

Plus $ for reserve seating for the vast majority of away games in Melbourne.

For many this becomes too expensive.

I got into a blue (pun intended) at the first game against Carlton last year.. was in the MCC members.. spent most of the game in the bar, and had to put up with a group of scumbags shouting shite all day. There was one play early in the last quarter, the ball bounced in front of Monfries, and took a leg break. Monfries had no chance of getting it, but the No.1 scumbag let rip with "Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy don't get a farken hard ball get Monfries.. he he he". I couldn't handle it anymore, so I replied with "He's kicked your ar$e all day, he doesn't need another kick you phuckwit!". He didn't take too kindly to it and got in my face, "What did you call me?!". I replied "You heard me the first time and I'll say it again, you're a phuckwit!". He pushed me, I pushed him back. Then, my old man jumped in. The bloke had the balls to say "I hope you're proud of you son, with that mouth". The bloke had been swearing like a trooper all day. It fired the old man up, he had two of them by the throat up against the bar. It fired me up too, so I gave the No.1 scumbag a nice jab to the mid section when we were in the ruck (no camera vision :D ).

Anyways, security turned up and broke it up. They were going to kick us out. But then, a miracle occured. A Carlton supporter and his partner was drinking next to us all day. He stepped forward and belted out the following in reference to the group of Carlscum "This is bull$hit! Those bloke have been acting like imbociles all day, I can't stand them and they have caused all this shite!" So, the Carlscum got kicked out, and we got to watch the end of the game. I was amazed, it showed that not all Carlton supporters are scum.

So, in a nutshell, the fight was fun. And we won!!!

You and your old man should go tag team on UFC Gimps - but hey, if you really wanted to get into the Scum supporters face, you should have simply read him one of your poems - he would have been running for the exit by the third stanza

Ha, we'd be a formidable force. The old man is getting on in years, but I still wouldn't want to fight him.

I wanted to make the bloke cry Windy, but not tears of joy from hearing one of my wonderful poems :D

Essendon crowds are always quieter than the other teams with large supporter bases.

I got into an argument with a group of adult Carlton supporters when I was only a kid. They all started coming towards me obviously not caring about the fact that I was only 17 at the time. Dad ended up standing up and saying "F*** OFF" in his deep Scottish accent and they took his advice! :D

the carlton fan who started this fight, kept on getting up and basically just pushing through my legs to get out and went up to this other guy and kept provoking him, for like 10 mins the carlton guy just stared at the other guy and was itching to get up and go for him, he was physically shaking... basically just looking for the smallest of opportunities.

as the bomber fan got up to leave second before the fight, some feral bogan carlton girl started yelling "id hate to be your mother" with her angry tooth missing face lol

Princes Park was the only ground I felt unsafe at all those years ago. Saw some shocking blues especially after the game. I used to put my head down and just got the hell out of the gound and the surrounding parklands esp. after a win.

Worst f***'n losers ever. Sweetest moment was walking out after N. Daniher took them on single handed back in 1981, methinks.

Yeah, old Princess Park was a nightmare. The old Social Club was a breeding ground for the ultimate scum...

I know there's a bit of a trend happening here.. but as far as 'best' footy fights go, my old man has been involved in a few crackers. The top 2 in no particular order:

1. Cleaning out half of the Essendon Cheer Squad after a game at the MCG. They were walking out with the poles that hold the banner up. The tools holding them weren't watching where they were going, and hit my brother with force in the back of the head. When the old man said "Watch where you're going", one of them replied with "Get phucked". Not a good move. Dad and his mate took on about 8 or 9 of them. It was finished in a minute. The old man barely raised a sweat. Wasn't good taking on our own, but they deserved it.

2. The loud mouth Collingwood fan on the train. The Bombers won the game, so we were quite happy on the trip back to Spencer St. I was about 13 at the time, and had my Dons jumper on. As we were walking along the platform, this knob muttered some shite about Essendon, so I told him to "suffer", as you do when you're a kid. Anyways, hopped on the train, there was a delay in departure. This bloke was at the end of the carriage with his bogan mates, we were in the middle. All he did was yell and swear. The train was packed with women and children, so the old man stepped in. "Watch your mouth, there's women and children on the train.." The reply "f*** the women and children, and yourself."

Again, bad move. The old man hit back with "How bout you stop using your mouth and show us what a BIG man you are?". So, the dropkick decides to walk down the carriage, and virtually jumps on the old man as he is sitting down. A couple of bystanders pulled him off, and he went back to his seat. Yap, yap, yap. He wouldn't stop. The old man had enough, he got up, pointed at the scum, and pointed at the door. The poor soul followed the old man off the train. By the time I got to the door, the old man had given him a love tap on the chin, threw him on the ground, and had his foot on his throat. One of the blokes mates' tried to help out, but my brother and I held him off. The VLine conductors broke it up, and let us back on. After a few minutes, they let the other bloke back on.

We were getting off at Melton, the next stop is Bacchus Marsh. This imbocile kept at it with the yap, "Get off at Bacchus Marsh for Round 2!". I piped up. "Why would you want him to get off at Bacchus marsh when you got your ar$e kicked in Round 1?". Got a few laughs out of that one. Anyway, we got off at Melton escorted by the conductors. Off course, the "Hero" was doing the same thing any hero would do. He pretended he was going to do something, while his mates held him back. The most trouble the old man had that day was the wrath of mum, when I let the cat out of the bag and told her.

Yeah, not saying it's any of those things. But, they all provoked it, and thoroughly deserved it vingertje

My old man is one of the nicest blokes you'd ever meet. But, if someone does something to someone he likes/loves, he'll stand up for them.
