Who would win?

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Who would win?

Post by Gimps »

Was just daydreaming about a few of our greatest past players...

I would love to see a clash between our current team versus the following list of former Essendon Champions (in their prime)..

Backs: Richard Cole, Matthew Banks, Ty Zantuck
CHB: Benny Doolan (VC), Todd Ridley, Kepler Bradley
C: Marc Bullen, Daniel McAlister, Judd Lalich (CAPT)
CHF: Mark Alvey, Aaron Henneman, Julian Kirzner
FF: Andrew Ukovic, Illija Grgic, Willie Dick
Foll: Simon Eastaugh, Tony Delaney, Andrew Bomford

Int: Tristan Cartledge, Jonathan Robran, James Davies, Joel Reynolds

I think we'd just about get done  Feel free to add any players that you think were stiff to miss out..

Ha ha.. he was considered, but I did have a soft spot for old Bolts. I would include him as an emergency.

Judd Lalich was first in vingertje

The above team, because they wouldn't handpass around in circles, even if coached to do so.

Joel Reynolds was a bit stiff not to get the full back spot

Ted Richards would be in there.

David Flood was hideous and after watching old footage of Peter Cransberg I shake my head in disbelief (2 left arms and two left legs)..although cransberg was my favourite player in 1990

We would have had some shockers around 1994ish...Barry Young?

Colyer will make it into one of these teams in 10 years time...mark my words.

And David Hille...one of the worst kicks I have ever seen. Some people in here rave about him but f*** me, he should be in there purely based on his kicking for goal.

He was around for a while after that. I reckon might have played on Carey that day he kicked 10 and Lloyd got 7.

Barry Young wouldn't get anywhere near this list.. I'd love to have him out there at the moment, hard as nails.

Flood & Cransberg weren't bad enough either. And well, Ted Richards did win a flag when he left us.

Nah richards played the year the Eagles won!

Fair to say I hated Richards...used to go beserk every time he went near the ball! Although you are right, he lifted his game when he went to Sydney and is an average player now (does he still play?)

Judd Lalich was dreadful wasn't he...he played around 1997-1999 and would have copped it from everyone...

Oh, that's right, he only played in the GF, didn't win it.

Judd Lalich probably copped the most out of any player on any of these forums in history. The old Bomber website got bombarded with comments about him. He was JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNK!

Jonathan Robran does not deserve to be in that side considering the material you have to choose from.

Nah, he definitely stays in...

Just found this.. Comes from this website http://www.footballinvective.com/featur ... sides.html

WORST SIDES 1990-2003

ESSENDON
B. Ken HALL Matthew BANKS Ed CONSIDINE
HB. Paul MORRISH Jonathan ROBRAN David JOHNSTONE
C. Daniel MCALISTER Andrew BOMFORD Ben DOOLAN
HF. Willie DICK Todd RIDLEY Russell WILLIAMS
F. Lachlan ROSS Michael WERNER Ryan O'CONNOR
R. Simon EASTAUGH Andrew UNDERWOOD Tony ANTROBUS
Int. Matthew WATSON Ilija GRGIC Dean BAILEY Brad FOX

There's a few good ones that I forgot about. Probably a couple that don't deserve to be in there. No Judd Lalich! This bloke must have had his eyes closed when he played!

Great to see Benjamin Doolan get a mention vingertje

Interesting to see a coach's name in there.

P.S. I think ANY of these "dud" teams would beat us the way we are playing at the moment.

I went to primary school with Benny Haynes... he was a decent player.. couldn't possibly put him in the same league as some of these blokes.

Paul Barnard played on Carey for most of that game. Young did play across half-back I think, I remember him giving one to McKernan.

Young was a good player for us in '99, one of only a few to play well in the Prelim and would have played in a Premiership in 2000 if he wasn't so greedy.

Peter Somerville, added kicker being that we traded Paul Salmon to the Dawks because we considered Somerville a better ruckman than the Big Fish. At least we got Wellman and Barnard in that trade.

My god we could use a bloke like Barnard in the team at the moment.
