Grant Locked Up
FORMER North Melbourne star Shannon Grant was locked up by police for drunkenness on the weekend.
Grant, the coach of the Bendigo Bombers team in the Victorian Football League, was arrested by police in Bendigo on Saturday night.
He was lodged in cells at Bendigo police station for four hours to sober up.
Grant was released in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Victoria Police refused to comment on circumstances of the arrest.
Grant has had other off-field dramas over the years.
In 2008, he was suspended by North Melbourne after his behaviour at a sponsors’ golf day was deemed unacceptable.
A year earlier, he was capsicum sprayed by police as teammate Aaron Edwards lay unconscious nearby at a concert near Geelong.
It seems that Grant was out on the turps after the Bendigo Bombers had the weekend off.
Ithought he would probably have been at the MCG on Saturday night.!!!!

Absolutely f****** piss poor from a senior coach who is being trusted with developing our kids (who would be in the news headlines everywhere if they did this sort of shit themselves).
Dickhead needs be called in for an absolute blasting from those in charge and assured he is 1cm away from being shown the door.
Wanker.

Re: Grant Locked Up
Be interesting to see how the club reacts in light of previous punishments handed out to players like McVeigh, Lovett, Hurley etc. A coach is supposed to set the example and instill discipline amongst the playing group. Over to you now EFC...

If Bendigo weren't doing so well he'd probably be sacked.

Re: Grant Locked Up
Really really disappointed to hear this.... yes he is still quite young but for Gods sake... he is the senior coach of our reserves team. Not the type of standard we want our young boys adhering to....

A fascinating conundrum for the decision makers. Who will they be anyhow?
Coaching well...as per win/loss ratio.
Team doing well. New team though, so even Hickmont might've been ok.
Poor example.
Track record.
One chance maybe...stern words and a fine (if they can do that?)
Maybe a mandate to attend a class for naughty boys that don't know when to recognise their responsibilities and behave?

There is simply no second chances in this situation. What message would be sent to the young players in the squad if its ok for the coach to be arrested for drunk and disorderly behavaiour, "dont worry Mate, take a fine and it'll be alright"
Remember, Grant has a shite record for this sort of thing so surely he's had his chances already.
Re: Grant Locked Up
Wow. Appalling, really. Will be VERY interesting to see how the club deals with this.

Re: Grant Locked Up
Changing coaches now would really unsettle the Bendigo team IMO.... they are finally looking like a happy and settled unit and then the coach goes and does this.....
Re: Grant Locked Up
He has been stood down for 2 matches.
This was a Bendogo Bombers decision and not an EFC decision. I guess that is the correct channel for this action.
The coaching for the next 2 weeks will be shared by;
Bendigo assistant coach Hayden Skipworth as well as Essendon assistant coaches Gary O’Donnell, Alan Richardson and Ashley Prescott.

Re: Grant Locked Up
Heard Granty wasn't overly drunk. TBH you get thrown in the cells in Bendigo even if you display a sign of being tipsy, cops are very over protective of getting anyone showing any sign of alchol off the streets so they can claim their 2am curfew keeps drunks off the streets.
Essendon Football Club- We arent arrogant, just deluded.

It says to the young players that if you f*** up, you will be punished, but the club will stand by you and give you aWindy_Hill wrote:F111 wrote:A fascinating conundrum for the decision makers. Who will they be anyhow?

2nd chance.
Name any of the following players that were sacked after their first f*** up: Lovett, McVeigh, Hurley? Lovett in particular got numerous chances before we got sick enough of him to give him the arse.

I dont understand all the outrage at this...
So what he got pissed... He is allowed to lead his own life from time to time when he isnt being a reserves coach

Re: Grant Locked Up
No one is saying that he's not allowed to lead his own life...... but you wouldnt see many coaches (VFL or AFL) go out and get so drunk that they are arrested.bomberdonnie wrote:I dont understand all the outrage at this...

Re: Grant Locked Up
Poor effort from a coach IMHO...also interesting to see that Skippy has been named as coach together with the relevant EFC assistants...
Be interesting to see what effect this has on the team and would love to Skippy do well...
