Do we want Greg Inglis?
Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
My understanding after reading something from the AFL yesterday..a marketing bloke, now there's a reliable source...is that the AFL would be very interested in using an Inglis type to market the game thru aboriginal communities in NSW & QLD, where NRL is strong. EFC would pay an amount under the cap, and the AFL would pay everything else.
1 spot on the list, for something like that. No brainer for me. Get the bloke.

Bang on F-111..
Also..
Apparently there is a rule/clause within the AFL where if you bring a player in from another sport, you don't have to pay them under the salary cap (thought this was the way it worked, and it was discussed/confirmed on SEN today - let's hope I, and SEN have received the right information). I'm not sure if it is the first year, or the length of the first contract.. As well as this, we don't have to give up draft picks or trade for these players. So, if getting one of these blokes isn't going to affect our salary cap, why the f*** wouldn't you have a crack at it?
Bring in Inglis as a project player, and still chase a Boak, Dangerfield etc. Sounds like a good set up to me.

You think everyone is destined for the Broncos. We tried propping you up by giving you Folau and you did a great job with him.The Man from Bomberland wrote:Inglis is a brilliant athlete and also clever footy player. We'd be silly not to give him some thought. I doubt we'll snag him though. I think he's destined for the Broncos.
Essendon Football Club- We arent arrogant, just deluded.

I am sure Paddy Ryder wouldnt mind $800k a year to promote the game to indigenous communities. I dont know about this issue - not convinced its a smart play
Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
Folau paid 250k for footy, 573k for promotions and the rest paid by the AFL which leaves about 175k from the AFL to make up his $1mill/year
will the AFL limit their contribution to the same 175k?

Here's what I would do. Invite all of these NRL guys to put on an exhibition match of AFL versus the Echuca Ladies U/18's Girls Aussie Rules Team.
I know where my money would be!

Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
Great point. I guess the difference is Inglis is more recognisable in NSW/Qld.Windy_Hill wrote:I am sure Paddy Ryder wouldnt mind $800k a year to promote the game to indigenous communities. I dont know about this issue - not convinced its a smart play
Aaron Francis is the Messiah.
Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
we are in no position to carry some project NRL player giving away plenty of free kicks each game..... simple
talk of him taking a pay cut to stay with the Storm anyway, might not be enough to keep him there but surely this after everything has shown his heart isn't in a move so we'd be stupid to take him on!
FORGET about it Essendon and concentrate on getting another a-grade mid, FFS stay smart

The AFL yesterday confirmed it could pay Inglis cash on top of an Essendon salary, mirroring the deals that convinced Israel Folau and Karmichael Hunt to jump ship.
Told ya the AFL would pay him.

Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
I understand that he cant simply walk out on the Storm, they would have to let him go or change his contract conditions
Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
That's right Windy. The Storm have to make the moves, he can't just walk away as he is contracted.Windy_Hill wrote:I understand that he cant simply walk out on the Storm, they would have to let him go or change his contract conditions
Re: Do we want Greg Inglis?
We pay this guy a couple of hunj thousand a year and get a world class athlete who may not pay off but could potentially be an elite player?
Why at this stage of our development wouldn't we roll the dice?
