why is it?

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

why is it?

Post by brad »

that whenever we win a game the focus (from media outlets) is how poor the opposition is?

win this week it will be same as they'll be tearing down Visy Park.

YET Richmond win and they bang on about their passionate 19K fans who rock up to the G, how they sing their song with GUTSO.

Melbourne win and they say what a POWER HOUSE they're going to be (they've beaten Sydney and Brisbane the past two weeks).

I was really frustrated about this on Friday night and Sat morning. Nearly everyone was going on how the Saints have lost their mojo and that they are struggling and how it was their form that lost them the game...

How about how bloody brilliant our young guys were... :x

To be fair, Richmond and Melbourne have been down for so long that a hint of success is naturally going to attract more media attention. Not to mention that their fans have been showing more passion than ours, who have mainly been concerned with the perceived failings of Knights.

Remind me the last time we've had 19K at our game (and don't use hail as an excuse as it didn't rain until the last quarter).

Melbourne have had as much success as us since 2000. They may have been on the bottom (recently) but in regards to finals appearances there's not much difference there. They played finals in 2000 (losing Grand Final against us), 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006. We played finals in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2009. That's one year difference (last year).

Yes lots of supporters are annoyed with the coach but Richmond are well known to turn on their coach, Melbourne do the same.

The media sucks and when we beat decent opposition they should be acknowledging it and not just focussing on the opposition for their headline.

Maybe because the like most of us, the media have seen it all before. The Essendon team turning on the style, and then in the following weeks, lacking the substance to back it up. It takes more than knocking off a top 4 team every now and then to make up for what is about to become the 7th season in a row where we lose more than we win.

Because people who don't love us, hate us. Melbourne and Richmond are hard to hate because they've been less successful.

Not too fussed about what the media say. They're are more journos that hate us than love us and they like to stick the knife in when we are down but also turn a blind eye when we do something good.

we need positive publicity and a good image from the public as we can't rely on growing our membership base the way we've been travelling last few years.

take a look at all of the Friday night fixtures we've had and I'd bet we'll have won more of them than we've lost (and rarely been thrashed). Why? Because it's Prime Time television and our club busts it gut to win those games (and they're usually against quality opposition).
