Sam Hunt - The Second Coming

Post by DC »

Up early in the morning chaps and read this:

Former Essendon defender Sam Hunt is expected to be promoted from the rookie list after impressing in the VFL.

Thoughts?

Did the Dons let go of Sammy to early? They played him about 5 times I think. I thought he deserved more games.

If true, it's hardly surprising. If we're considering re-drafting Henneman and picking up Jason Cloke in the PSD, we should think about giving Hunt a 5-year, $500k p.a. contract. That's the footy theory of relativity.

Sheedy/coach completed mismanaged Sammy.

They constantly played him at fullback in the VFL, but were constantly saying he would only be used at as a flanker/winger in the seniors.

Didn't make much sense to me.

Performed admirably at fullback in VFL, didn't get too many chances at all in the AFL.

I suppose the club in the end decided to delist him last year and pick up another young key defender instead, (Austin Lucy).

Turned out pretty well didn't it.

Hope for the club's sake Andrew Lee comes on big time next year and Sammy Hunt doesn't do too much, otherwise they'll look stupid.

The Herald Sun, Jimmy.

They mentioned it after they said Geelong delisted Kouli and McCarthy(McCartney).

Always thought he got a raw deal from Sheedy.

Could play FB but also ran well and could play back flank or wing. Monster kick too. Some of his kick ins went to the middle of the ground.

What's everyones thoughts on Kouli from geelong, I know he hasn't got the best skills going around but at one stage he looked like he had made it and then spent alot of time in the twos, I'm probably leaning towards a no but does anyone think we should pick him up ?

No.

The bit in bold is where I think you nailed it. There are enough players on the team with shite skills, why get another?

This is an easy question:

NONE.

We have enough defenders with poor skills.

I'm sure if Hunt was good enough he would have played more games.

I'm sure there are a lot of players that could be said about but who just plain never got the opportunity.

The fact remains, unless they get a go, you'll never know.

What did he do in the games he got a go?

I can remember that he did f*** all against West Coast last year in Perth when given an opportunity.

well seeing he only got about 30 minutes of gametime that's not too surprising.

When Sheedy finally gave him a bit of an extended run in the last quarter (ie he was on for at least 5 minutes) he was crapping himself, because the coach had made himself doubt his abilities by sitting in on the bench so much. Well anyway, he got the ball in the back pocket under a fair amount of pressure, tried to handball it through for a behind, due to the wet conditions he slipped and merely succeeded in coughing the ball up to an Eagles player who kicked a goal.

From the way some recount the story though you would think he had an Eagles jumper under his Essendon one and it was a deliberate hand ball to the opposition player!!

Big deal? Henneman did f*** all in his 58 games.

Bolton has done f*** all in about half of his games.

Why didnt they give Hunt a half decent go, like they did for Sheedys sex-bitch?
