Clash jumper - its going to happen.

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Will it stop you being an Essendon supporter - no actually it holds the club up as a leader in the community (cancer awareness, Dreamtime to celebrate indigenous peoples etc) - actually shows that Essendon are LEADERS and INOVATORS in the league! (sorry for the capitals Grassy!!)

The original jumper will be worn for over 90% of our games - should be enough for you to remember what it looks like!

Grassy ass!!
Sorry, but there is nothing innovative about putting an unbuckled seatbelt in the middle of the clubs jumper.

They could easily call the game the buckle up cup, run some advertising on TV and billboards at the game and make a PA announcement. All of that would easily have as much impact as wearing a bastardized EFC jumper for a match.

Call me old fashioned, but I think there are some things in life which are sacred. I think a proud football clubs jumper is one of those things.

If Essendon or the AFL was serious about promoting the anniversary of compulsory seatbelt wearing (I mean for f*** sake, who gives a shit abot it being the anniversary) - why not free up all the boundary fence advertising for the TAC for this round of footy.

Apart from anything, 98% of people watching the game wont even see the changes made to our red sash - boundary fence advertising would be a FAR MORE EFFECTIVE MEDIUM

As for succumbing to the AFL demands for an alternative strip

Well they can kiss my ass (and about 90% of the other Essendon members who will not accept the constitutional change to allow for an alternative strip)

Hope we never havr a clash jumper but looks like the club will just bend over like everyone else.

The seatbelt thing seems pointless, no one will taken notice and just think of the jokes if we get belted... pardon the pun.

I'm partilally colour blind and never had an issue with jumpers even in the mud and the blood of the old surburban grounds.

Being a staunch traditionalist, I do not want them to f*** around with our jumper. Give an inch on this and before you know it, we will have different jumpers for different occasions.

The whole issue stinks of commercialism and if it it good enough for Collingwood to fight for their history, it is good enough for us. Just because other teams have bent over does not cause a precedent for us.

If we are not playing for the tradition and heritage of our club, what are we playing for. I am rehashing old discussions here but does not our constitution forbid such a change without a massive majority vote from the members.
This pretty well sums it up.

The home ground has changed, the players of course change, the office holders change, the supporters obviously change, the clubs fortunes change.

Everything except two things-

The name and the jumper.

If all this alternative jumper issue is about "theatregoers" tell em to buy a new TV.The're cheap with brilliant picture. All ultra HDs and all that. You can pick a fly out at 100 metres for heavans sake.

Stand up to the AFL and all whingers and insist we do not change at any cost.

If we capitulate the only recognisable bit remaining with be the name and in the future somebody will come up with a reason to change that too.

Then all will be lost.

So this whole issue boils down to a pissing contest with Collingwood? Doesn't sound like a particularly smart basis upon which to make decisions.

I'll put the clash strip aside..

The BUCKLE jumper - great cause, what's the problem? It's not going to look as shit as the graphic posted on here.

It's one game. BIG DEAL.

You failed to make out any sort of argument other than if Collingwood refuse to produce an alternative strip, then neither should we.

Before I attend to your question as to "heritage" and "tradition", perhaps you could tell me why having an alternative strip would offend those concepts?

Say what you will about Collingwood and Eddie, but I wish we had a board who would stand up to the AFL on this instead of bend over and take it.

Also they significantly changed their jumper roughly 10 years ago - from white with black stripes to black with white stripes, which looks very different - and I'm pretty sure for a couple of years their away jumper had a magpie at the top.

Good to know.

Also I find it laughable that the ******** running the league are prepared to take away every tradition in the league except for Good Friday and Demetriou gets pretty shitty whenever Good Friday is mentioned. f*** off.

On the seat belt jumper
Gimps wrote:This is an amazing initiative that WILL increase the awareness of the shit that is constantly happening on our roads.
Rubbish. Dickheads will be dickheads and still drive fast/dangerously and kill themselves and others.

I just can't see us wearing a stupid jumper changing the road toll at all.

The media gives coverage to the biggest crashes and there has been graphic TAC ads for as long as I've been watching TV and people still go and get themselves killed.

It's a great message to send, but will make no difference.

The more exposure, the more chance of reaching people. Dickheads will be dickheads, but you still have to try.

I really don't see the issue in changing the jumper slightly for a cause like this. Like I said, it's not like we are selling out to M&M's or some other bullshit for money.

Change to a special jumper might wake the f****** players up a bit at the moment - they didn't have a lot of passion for it a few weeks ago!

It doesn't change anything once the ball is bounced! We would cheer them on if they wore bloody garbage bags (well most of us would - the ladies might be a tad disappointed)

I just don't get the whole uproar about a clash jumper!

Worry more about the pill than the fashion - shit do we stop the boys using hair gel and coloured boots - where's all the tradionallistic bullshit over that? Did we go off our tits when they had lace up jumpers?

Oval ball - big sticks - put it through them - thats all we should be worried about!

Problem is they cant change the strip without conducting a vote amongst all members as it will require a change to the club's constitution - it aint going to happen

Paint a f****** 80 metre seatbelt across the halfway line of the MCG surface from the members to the outer! You wanna get a message accross, do something with some impact - however, leave our football jumper alone

Hey Red, have you seen how much product King Richard used to put in his hair.

Listen, the boots, the tatts, the hair - thats the player's domain. They can do what they want there. The jumper, well that belongs to the fans.

BAHH HHHAAA HAHAHAH

Mate didn't see King Dick play unfortunately - but tell me are we using the same jumper as he had then? I think not - there are differences in the sash and we have more logos etc!!

As long as we are using Red and Black whats the issue!

Anyway - was just my opinion and I think the club would be better spending time on recruitment and player management than what sort of jumper we wear!

I'm yet to read why adopting an alternative strip will affect the traditions and heritage of the club. Someone please explain, Pauline Hanson styles.
