Went through the list and IMO these are the top 10 players that are untradable
Jobe Watson
Travis Colyer
Scott Gumbleton
David Hille
Michael Hurley
Jake Melksham
Tayte Pears
David Zaharakis
Dustin Fletcher
Heath Hocking.

Who else should be considered ?

2 more... Howlett .. just about our best player behind Watson. Also Ryder is untouchable even given his average season.

At this point I would like to keep Jetta and Myers but don't think they are untouchable.

If it was up to me: (not saying this is what the club will keep - just what I'd do)

3. Scott Gumbleton
4. Jobe Watson
8. Jason Winderlich
9. Brent Prismall (there is a good player in there, Knights and co ruined him in the last year)
10. Mark McVeigh (has just signed on for two years, no trade value anyway)
11. David Zaharakis
13. Anthony Long
15. Courtenay Dempsey (see Prismall)
16. Tayte Pears
17. Jake Melksham
18. Michael Hurley
19. David Hille
22. Jake Carlisle
23. David Myers
26. Cale Hooker
29. Alwyn Davey
30. Paddy Ryder
31. Dustin Fletcher
32. Travis Colyer
34. Kyle Hardingham
39. Heath Hocking
40. Ben Howlett
43. Bachar Houli
47. Marcus Marigliani

Watson - Kicking and pace let him down.

Zaharakis - Looks okay, nothing more at this stage.

Gumbleton - injury plagued and done nothing of note.

Melksham - good season, would still consider trading him for the right price.

Bottom line is we should be open to trading just about anyone. What do we have to lose? We are starting slightly above ground zero here (i.e. we have a team name, a uniform and club song). We need to be thinking 5-10 years down the track. If we need to let go some good players go to achieve success down the track, so be it.

LOL untradeable....if you listened to Gringo the entire list! for a player to be tradeable another club needs to want them!

now untouchable....well you probably wouldn't trade the captain regardless of the deal(although was Judd captain at west coast when he got traded??), so he would be untouchable.

Otherwise I think if the deal was right and Essendon got great value why would you make any other player untouchable?

Lets look at the Swans, they lost Jolly, but heck in the trade period they managed to pick up Mumford. great trading. If our probably most valuable player in Hille requested a trade and we could win by picking up another good ruckman elsewhere...why wouldn't you?

All that said and done, in reality we are not going to pick up young KPP talent thats better than Hurley,Pears and Gumbleton and there probably isn't any better ruck talent available thats better than Hille.

But if some other club really wanted one of them and were prepared to offer up a genuine A grade mid, you would have to consider it.

I think we are probably slightly rich in young KPP talent and slightly poor in young midfield talent. so we need to address that balance.

And we are deficient in general for quality senior players. I think that might just be a bit of a waiting game whilst we get games and muscle into our kids...

Keep Carlisle and Ryder. Hocking can be traded but, like most of our list, we wouldn't get much for him so he might as well stay.

Have been talking today to mates who are keen supporters of other teams & are perplexed about where we are because they we think we have a good young up & coming list. As evidence by our success against higher ranked sides , however young lists are always inconsistent.

So i don't think there will be a huge turnover of players this year. We have the basis of good side , how long it takes to develop is open to question. Also don't forget we have a top 10 draft pick ( # 9 I think). Thereafter our picks are a long way down so the odds of getting decent players then are minimal. Therefore it will be pointless disposing of to many players.

The only players that i think who are in danger of being delisted are Laycock & Dyson , Houli may ask for a trade , Stanton has'nt signed a contract maybe he wants to work on his tan at the Gold Coast.

I think if Knights had of stayed then Houli would have asked to go elsewhere.

However i reckon he would probably look at chancing his arm with a new coach.

Given the unequal draft for the next few years - anyone 21 and under should be retained.

Hopefully a new coaching panel will build some confidence and strength in the young-uns and we might just move a couple of them past 'potential'.

Of the rest:
Hille and Watson - probably our 2 most competent players.
Fletcher and Spike - Fletch is too old and too valuable - Spike has unbelievably just been given 2 more years.

That is all folks!

Everyone else is tradeable given the right circumstances and the right deal.
My material isn't very good..Oh...and then there's the bladder problem.

The young ones that have shown promise this year should be kept, those are: Melksham, Colyer, Carlisle, Howlett and Hardingham. Zaharakis, Gumbleton and Hurley could all be stars, Pears will be.
