Gumby or Carlisle?

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Gumby or Carlisle?

Post by filthy2 »

First some assumptions.

a) Gumbleton gets finally as fit as and has a fair run at it. Carlisle puts on a bit more tone and muscle (his Old Man is built like a brick shithouse).

b) The "Brainstrust" is looking at either of them for CHF or FF, assuming Fletch, Tayte, Hooker play tall with Hibberd and Hardy playing medium and whomever small and Dyson heads to the wing or midfield. Hurls can play either.

On revealed form, who gets your vote for the gig.

Me its Carlisle. Great mark (buckets), sound body and a much better kick. Gumby's kicks even in the 2's was awful; holding it and dropping too high and rarely holds it over the kicking leg. Up and under hospital balls. Can't afford poor disposals these days.

Thoughts.

Carlisle.

You can't ignore the fact that Gumby won't be right in 2012. He is still in alot of pain and I would be stunned if he plays next season.

He really does need to eat though.

Carlisle hands down, even if Gumby got himself right i think Carlisle is more versatile and simply a better suited footballer to the current game

No room

If you have Fletch, Pears and Hooker down back with Hurley, Crameri and the resting ruckman forward, you can't then play both Gumby and Carlisle.

I'd be more inclined to play Carlisle as he can play back as well.

It's a no brainer...Carlisle is streets ahead of Gumby, even if Gumby was fully fit.

Carlsile.

Gumbleton needs to play 8-10 VFL games without a sissy injury before being considered.

I hope Gumbleton has a great year, and shows enough to stay and progress. I have no doubt Carlisle will.

Carlisle - no contest. He has the makings of a very, very high class CHF.

You can't name him in one post and then ask "who?" Conflicting jokes. Sue me.

Wouldnt it be great if they could both add something to the team. Competition for places cant hurt

I just have a feeling Gumby has been given as much time as possible because the coaches genuinely feel he can be a player.

Apart from his kicking, he has shown he can be a pretty solid tall forward - and remember, he has only played 22 games and probably most of those have been with injury or the fear of injury holding him back.

No doubt, but with the emergence of Carlisle, I couldn't give a flying f*** anymore whether Gumbleton makes it or not. Even last year I didn't care.

Well, in the words from a former club champion in 2008 (passed on 3rd hand) - Gumbleton is no good and will not make it.
