Johns injured.

Post by F111 »

APP
However, an injury which forced the 22-year-old to hobble off in the second quarter was a dark spot on an otherwise encouraging evening for Kevin Sheedy.
Any news?

Had a big collision with Seaby early in the 2nd quarter. He limped off and did not come back on.

looked like a hip on hip collision.

Lloyd fires but Dons lose Johns
By Craig O'Donoghue, Perth
March 4, 2007

Three second-quarter goals in just nine minutes from captain Matthew Lloyd inspired Essendon to a 58-point win over West Coast in their Challenge Cup match at Subiaco Oval last night.

But the the Dons would have been concerned when promising youngster Courtney Johns was forced from the field early in the second term with a hip injury. He will be out of action for at least a week. Johns, who missed more than two years with hip problems after the Dons recruited him to the rookie list, copped a solid bump from Eagles ruckman Mark Seaby three minutes into the quarter.

He had been in good form, kicking two first-quarter goals and taking the mark of the night when he leapt over a pack of players in the goal square. Johns was aggressive from the outset, crunching David Wirrpanda into the fence and also enjoying a stoush with Chad Jones.

But doctors were quick to assess his right hip after he limped from the ground and he took no further part in the match.

The injury was to the opposite side of his body to that of his original problems.
That last sentence is very important.
Hopefully it's only one week.

Don't think it would be too serious. Just because he didn't go back into the game doesn't mean its very bad. If someone gets a little hurt in preseason, there is no point playing them, risking serious injury.

Johns injury only minor
Sunday, 4 March 2007

Emerging Essendon forward Courtney Johns will not be sidelined for any significant length of time despite missing the second half of last night’s match against West Coast with a corked hip. Johns sustained the injury after colliding with West Coast ruckman Mark Seaby. It is not the same hip as that which sidelined him for two years.

Johns had started the game well kicking two goals – the second came courtesy of a spectacular contested mark in the goal square. Essendon high performance manager John Quinn said the injury is only minor and that he may miss one game as a precautionary measure.

"It certainly isn’t anything serious. We will have a look at him during the week and make a decision. He may miss one game just to be on the safe side but it certainly won’t seriously impact on his pre-season," Quinn said.

Better still... let's not get any injuries. The team that has the shortest injury list has the best shot at the flag.

He copped 3 or 4 solid hits in a row from different eagles, and just couldnt rebound from it. Stared as the ball came into his area, and then doctors came out and took him off.
Good to hear it wasnt major!
