Hi Megan

I was browsing through bigfooty and found this thread which is a tribute video for Hirdy

Thought you might like it

Not bad at all.

The funny thing about watching a video like that, is that I am reasonably young at 24 and I can say with near certainty that I will never in my life see a better player play for Essendon.

I wouldn't say that. I thought the same after seeing Simon Madden and along came Hird. There will be players as good if not better than Hirdy come along.

Swoodley, thanks for that you're a champ :D

Bert, I'm making a new rule, anyone who doesn't think Hirdy is the best there ever was, is or will be gets banned ;) So watch is mister ;)

It will be a sad day when he walks off/gets stretchered off for the last time.

There might be equals in terms of influence, but there'll never be another as balanced and with the football genius of Hird. The man is an absolute wizard.

The thing out of that clip that I was most impressed about were the smothers on Blakey and Woewodin (correct me if I am wrong)

Man what a superstar we are all very lucky to have enjoyed him playing for the mighty mighty Dons!!!!

Hirdy would have been the best player Essendon has ever seen if he hadn't have so many injurys during his career.
Having said that He is a Superstar and has done the Essendon Football Club proud.
His skills, determination, leadership on and off the field - absolute First class,
I don't think He can ever be replaced and God help us when he finally hangs up His boots...
Take a bow...
Absolute Legend... :)

In all seriousness, if he hadn't endured the worst luck of injuries during his super career, he would have EASILY won another two Brownlow's and equalled the greatest ever Bomber in Dick Reynolds.

He could be on the list at the moment as well.

Some of those goals through traffic were just incredible. How do you juggle the ball like he did and then snap around an opponent to kick a goal? Fake one way, then the other then turn and kick through a myriad of players to bang a goal home?

Those smothers and chases were brilliant. The man is a master of his craft. As much as I would love to see someone as good as he is play for our club again, I doubt any of us ever will.

Great Vid, excellent tune, very "Gladiator" sounding.

Is it monfries you hint at, because of his toughness at the footy despite being small, and he's hunger, and he's freakish abilities to kick tough goals (bar that checkside against hawks last year  )

Or am I completely off the track ?

Multiply Monfries' number with Hird's number and you'll have the player I'm thinking of.
