A Champion's time has come.

Post by Rotorog »

It's time to give Hirdy a time in the magoos. His performance today was way below par. He cannot keep up with the pace of the game. He had several poor disposals, dropped marks and was dragged several times. Before you people start jumping up and down on the one spot and saying this is a crock of sh@t remember that the great Terry Daniher and Simon Madden finished their careers in the reserves. Hirdy has been great, but a time comes when the old legs and brain cannot keep up with the flow of the game. Alas Hirdy and (Sheedy) both your times have come.
Talking of Sheedy, glad to see some "respected" posters are now calling for his sacking. Essendon are going nowhere in 2007 with this outdated coach and his even more outdated coaching methods on display. We have only beaten injury ravaged teams this year. Could not even beat Carlscum after leading by 48 points at one stage.
Rant over.

He should be enjoying his last season of footy by floating in the forward line and creating havoc. Instead, he has to go into the engine room because no other bastard has the capacity to read the play, get into the thick of it, and create and opportunity of a clearance. Take him out of the team, and we'd be ever shitter.

Couldn't agree more - sad but true. Hirdy played on for another year reluctantly because he doesn't want to leave when the club are going so badly. And we're supposed to reward this by dropping him? I don't think so! I think all players should hang their heads in shame the way they've been playing after Hirdy's decision to play on for one more year - he's probably regretting it after some of the sh#t we've served up.

Finally a sensible post from a newbie tonight!!!

This is a great point in that why the f*** are we letting our great champion down with such insipid performances?

Surely if there was ever a motivator for this season it would be to send off Jimmy with some pride ffs...

Rotorog used to post the same sort of shit on the old bombertalk.

He's obviously just ben waiting for "the right moment" to vent his spleen on Hird.

Can't remember a single positive post from him before and it looks like nothing as changed

Thought Hird was one of our better contibutors today.

Played out of position- AGAIN - but got enough of the ball and didn't f*** up as much a his mid-field team mates.

There is a ten metre box at the end of the field - it's known as the goal square. In the third quarter if we had someone of the quality of Sir James lurking in or about this particular geography................................................

Hird had an opponent that was fitter and faster that he is. He should have been placed in the forward line on his own where he would still be able to dictate terms against any opponent.

Cant be dropped - but MUST be played in the fwd 50.

It seems so bleedingly obvious - he can lead, mark, rove, make the miraculous happen at stoppages - all where it can hurt opponents the most.

I don't understand what Sheeds is trying to achieve by playing him anywhere and everywhere. This just prevents the development of kids who will HAVE to be our midfield next year when Hird goes.

While I thought Hirds game was quite poor yesterday (by his standards), he was really the only bloke looking to create something (along with davey and Pev). His decision making left alot to be desired, but the guy is 112 years old, he should have been enjoying his final year playing on the HFF kicking a couple of goals a game.

Tony is right, he must be played in the forward 50, bob up for a couple of goals, probably set up a couple.

He doesn't have the engine to play in the centre anymore.

Play him in a foward pocket.

Perhaps Hird just takes it upon himself to get involved around the ground. He always had a free licence to do what he wanted......maybe he can't help himself.

He does do that. Sheeds has said many times that he nevers coaches Hird. Players like him do not need coaching, they know when do move themselves into the middle, when they need a rest etc.
