AFL Handouts

Post by swoodley »

This from AFL.com regarding money going to clubs over the next five years.

I've included the url for those who want to read the whole lot but thought the following might raise a few eyes

"On top of that, several clubs with low supporter bases and inferior stadium deals, will gain extra funds in 2007, ranging from $9.7 million to $6.2 million.

As a result, the Kangaroos will gain $9.7 million and the Western Bulldogs will be given $9.1 million. West Coast, Collingwood, Fremantle, Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions will gain $6.2 million.

The number of clubs receiving Annual Special Distribution (ASD) funding will be expanded and include the Kangaroos, Western Bulldogs, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, Richmond and Carlton. The AFL will also fund Sydney's TPP cost of living allowance. "

The whole thing is just a joke when clubs like Adelaide, Collingwood and West Coast start getting extra handouts.

With us, these are the richest clubs in the AFL.

How the hell does Vlad justify this??????????

They are richer clubs than us... referring to Adelaide and West Coast. Hell, Collingwood might be richer than us.

Tell me, were the clubs named just the extremes with the other non-named clubs filling the void between 6.2M and 9.1M? Or are the other clubs not receiving anything? If that is the case, are we getting m ore than Collingwood?

The article makes no mention of us at all (or clubs falling in between). These other rich clubs "apparently" have poor deals with the grounds they play at and thus need additional help! :? :? :?

By now everyone should have found out all the details of these distributions to all clubs as a consequence of the massive TV deal.
Our's is 6.5 mil along with Geelong. Some of that is towards improvements at Windy Hill.
Collingwood is,with a few other clubs,including Fremantle,at 6.2 mil,the lowest.

Yet we are the richest club in the AFL about to post a million dollar profit after finishing 2nd last??

And yet again mediocrity is rewarded. the teams at the top from Victorian have been the worst managed on and off the field yet get top dollar now. I just can't get my commercial head around that. Hey heres something novel....a level playing field? And we'll see who sinks or swims.

Hey Jacko start making Elliot like losses and maybe we'll get heaps more!? (just kidding)

Carlton should not recieve anything as it has been put in this situation because of their own cheating.

Port Adelaide, thats a joke. A two team town cant even support its two teams?

who gives a rats arse if they give certain teams more cash.
footy isn't about making money. its the peoples game.

IMO the AFL should clear all clubs debts, and take financial control for all of them. Then hopefully there would no more Elliot style rorting, salary cap breaching or the horrible sight of a football club going under.(eg fitzroy)

Footy clubs should just worry about footy and getting the most out of their playing group.

You won't get an argument from me on that one. But,as we all know, the system isn't fair anywhere.Sport, politics or anything else. With one exception from an Aussie sport point of view.
The Australian cricket team.No drafting,no salary cap,no player exchange, except the silly Poms want ours.Happy to help there. Our benefit only.
And a true market forces battle on the verge of erupting.Yep,the masses of Asia and whoever aligns with them against the rest.
Is India going to redistribute it's massive cricket wealth with everyone else.
No.
They are nobodies most humble servants anymore.
Now what has all that diatribe got to do with the Bombers.

Why stop there?

Why not just decide that each team can win 11 games each per season and then ALL play in the finals?

The AFL running the clubs would take away the culture of the clubs as they would all end up with similar business plans etc

The game is socialist enough already without the AFL sticking their nose in any further.

AFL pays each team the salary cap, coaches allowance and budget for training facilities.

the team decides how to spend the money to get the best performance out of the team.

Any other money making a club wants to embark on they can, to provide a good social club, juniors etc etc.

Why do footy clubs need to be businesses?

damn straight football should be socialist, thats what its all about, footy is the peoples game.
