Hird injured AGAIN (Or maybe not)

Talk about everything Essendon. Past, Present and Future if it's about the Bombers this is the place to be.

Oh turd.

What injury is being alleged, and how credible was the SEN source (oxy moronic perhaps, but anyway)?

Re-strained his calf apparently.

Seemed pretty credible, (it was a reporter, not a caller). Apparently he only lasted a handful of minutes on the track.

Yeah. Hirdy has since come out saying he'll play next week. Not this week. whether this is true or not is anyone's guess. Might have to watch the news at six to see the body language...

its starting to go very much the way it went for Tim Watson in 1994. Injured an ankle about round 14 and never made it back for a farewell game.

Its bitterly ironic that this may happen to Hirdy given his career long battle with injuries

Probably just another example of SENsationalist reporting.

Nah, its confirmed.

And it will be unlikely that he plays next week. They will probably do what they did with Rioli last year and have him play 20 minutes of the game

Saw it on Ten Sport.

Hird pulled up sore, left the track, tried to get away from the reporters but told them he wasn't playing this week. :(

Poor bloke. Just can't get a break. :(:(
I've got a bad feeling he's going to come back for one last "limp" around the 'G and then that'll be it. Sad ending for a man who's done it all.

Absolute bummer. Hope he can at least make it for a cameo appearance at the G against Richmond.

essendonfc.com.au is reporting he'll undergo a fitness test tomorrow. Guess tomorrow we'll find out if he's good to go or not.

Judging by this report - its still line ball so obviously the calf isn't as bad as people think.
Maybe its just not ready to go this week, and another week on the track and rehab will get him up for the Richmond farewell game.
Put it this way, i'd rather him miss this week against the scum and save himself for his last farewell appearance than to re-injure against a side thats cursed us for years.. That would be the worst way to say goodbye i reckon.

The report I heard was that he had some tightness in the calf and went off a precaution and they were going to hold him over to next week instead to make sure it's 100% right to go.

Looks like he might play on the weekend, according to Channel 10.

And according to the AFL site. I hope the great man plays. I want to see that famous #5 run out onto the 'G tomorrow.

If he plays, which I think he will, I'll have a lot more confidence about the game. I think he'll bring something to the game, he'll put in a blinder and show 'em how it's done. Maybe he'll say to some of the guys - this is how it's done, take a good long look.

James Hird is an absolute legend of the game. The younger guys (and even some of the more "experienced" players) need to be taking a good hard look at him. Who knows? One of them could very well be the next James Hird. Now I'm not saying the younger guys are duds or anything - a lot of them have a lot of potential and pretty much every player who has debuted this year has shown some good signs and even some of the less experienced players have shown a lot. They just need to be played and in the positions they're suited to. I think the entire team can learn a lot from Sir James and the time to do so is limited.
