Current Sportsbet Odds for Essendon 2008 season
Flag $61.00
Make 8 $3.20
Spoon $4.75
Highest Vic team $41.00
To make GF $21.00
I reckon the $3.20 to make the 8 is not the worst bet going around. After hearing Rama's enthusiasm on SEN this morning, I'll have a small taste.

Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark
I'm willing to put some money on that fact we might finally beat the Kangaroos for the first time in 7 years.
Good to see a strong focus to eradicate our deficiencies in the past couple of months - starting with the culling of dead wood on our list, and now the strong focus on fitness and skills.

My prediction is anywhere between 6th and 15th. just like our last few seasons, we will show some promise and have some close wins, see something from the kids, but also get beaten by the top 4 clubs - geelong, and whoever the rest are. Away games will be tough to win this year with a more inexperienced team - minus James hird.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
next season is one where I will not be putting any money near the dons.
personally, i try not to bet on anything essendon related.
my judgement is too clouded and I know it.
I do have faith that our playing list is in better shape than the current board believes(or members of).
genuinely better than which teams? basically 2008 is a watershed year. no hirdy quick fixes in the middle. no sheedy coaching miracles.
altho I think having a player as good as hird, probably did sheedy a disservice in the end...we were a club perceived as reliant on field with one man. and perceived as reliant off field on one man.
i'm eternally optimistic, I think the dons will swim, not sink.
I hope our new leader(s) are good in the club. knighta in particular.

I'm very hopeful that we'll improve our ladder position next year.
With Sheedy gone, so to are the relationships he had thru out the club.
MK is starting from scratch and the players are also. They'll need to perform for a young coach that seems to be doing most things well so far.
Remember, last year we beat a few successful teams from 2006, but fell away after the Sheed's non renewal. The effect of that was palpable, as was the absence of Hird. How we cover the role Hird played will be critical.
