Meaningless task #1 - 2008 Jumper Numbers

By my reckoning, 1, 5, 6, 16, 17, 23, 26, 27 & 28 are up for grabs.

Any thoughts on who, be they a current player or a new one, will fill them, especially I guess number 1 and the great number 5?

Darcy Daniher could get #6 if he wants it as his old man used to wear it.

I don't think it would add any pressure to the kid as his old man was a good player without being a star.

We shouldn't put anyone in number 17...I can't remember ever having a decent player in the number 17 jumper.

Darry Gerlach number 17. Played 162 games and pretty sure got State selection.

Pretty useful player and club champion 1970

Didnt Steve Carey wear number 17 who played in the early mid 80 era and was a 1985 premiership player. Was infamously traded along with Peter Bradbury for Geoff Raines and Mike Richardson in 1986. A trade Sheedy regrets to this day.

That is correct. Part of a HB line that read Duckworth Andrews Carey and was enough to send shivers down the spines of many a soft HF.

My recollections was Steve Carey although a tad slow was a very vigorous half back flanker who you would absolutely would not want to get bumped by. His legs were like tree trunks.

"Stan" Carey!!.

Had some memorable bouts with "Lethal Leigh" and did not give an inch.

Not known as a hit man, but that backline put the shits up many a soft bunch of forwards.

Was as tough as any Essendon player I can recall.

Was a great clubman and sorely missed when given the arse with Peter Bradbury.

Carey actually came back to the club for a very brief stint, but didn't manage a senior game. Think it was in 1988. Loved him, he was a hard nut in an era of hard nuts. I think even Jacko siad he was one of the toughest blokes going around at the time.
