Monfries is one of a handful of up and down (formwise) players that came to the team in the latter years of the Sheeds era ... Ryder, Dyson, Reimers, Davey. Jetta, Slattery. Myers etc all part of this group

Hmmm ... Just noted that Gus's contract is up at the end of the year ... is he a possibility for a possible pickup from a certain interstate startup?

I love starting unsubstatiated rumours

It's not like we're stuck several years back where the only other small forward on the list was Davey and he was in the team too. We have several other options. f****** get them in!

Had he kicked the 2 set shots he had in the third qtr we probabky would have iced the game then. HIs failure to score at least one of these goals was terrible - if Gus only gets three kicks in the forward line then he needs to kick at least 2 goals a game to be worth the grief.

Reality is however, those 2 misses aside, he played a solid and gutsy game today.

Haha.......you're trying to get me to acknowledge his "better" games

I won't be acknowledging it because it was just an "average" game from someone with 130+ games experience.

It doesn't overly impress me that he went in a couple of times with courage. I expect that. If we want to improve as a team and become serious September contenders, blokes like Gus need to be doing this consistently.

Raise the bar. Don't be satisfied with this Monfries performance unless you just want to be a middle of the road side. Expect more. Like nailing those gettable goals for a start....

I am not usually quick off the mark to slam players, but I am really over Monfries. When you consider that this is his 7th season, it is not much to expect that by now he would be a consistent contributor, playing the role of a lead up forwarded blindfolded, and snaring a couple of goals minimum per game.

What we get is a small forward flying for "Hollywood" marks, selfishly getting in the road of players who have the ball in front of them and who are running towards goal, and basically having minor impact overall. I reckon that we would get more value out of Reimers or even blood one of the kids, esp. against the Suns next week.
Too far for Baker now he's on to it, now he’s got it, OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dons are in front by one point at the 8 minute mark
