What did he say about the team in general?
he thinks we are "cooked", injuries have hit us hard and it's taking its toll, he thinks the injuries are just temporary and has faith it will all come good and expects us to be flag contenders 2013-2014

he has a few bold ideas such as Fletch and Ryder to sit on the wings for times in a game.

he thinks Winder and Hocking will make a massive difference to the team but still doesn't see how we can get over the Hawks, still too much talent out of the team. he would have given us a good chance with the full team out there

he also said Pears looks to be in big trouble and we'll be playing him for the last 6 rounds to get his currency up, said the same about Gumby too

thinks we'll beat Carlton and Richmond and outside chances to beat North and even Adelaide.....

he rates Jetta pretty highly and insists we need him to help kick our goals

Crameri and Myers in doubt apparently. Crameri some sort of hamstring tightness, and Myers a corked calf. The usual.

Yep - Cramers Hammy - Myers 'knock on the calf'

Both will miss.

Going in with an open mind. Will be positive of causing an upset as always, but probably change 5 minutes into the first quarter. Pray to whoever you pray to that we somehow get up. If we did how satisfying would it be...beating the Hawks, and basically securing a finals spot. Would be awesome...but anyway back in my hole.

Interesting tactic to talk up the hatred /rivalry, by Hird, smacks of the weaker competitor trying to give themselves belief. I suspect Hawthorn couldn't give a shite, they have far biggesr fish to fry in 2012.

I'm really calm about this game tonight. I have a feeling that we may go alright. I believe they are flat track bullies and when the going gets tough they go missing. It wouldn't be a massive shock if we somehow manage to win tonight.

Bit like Geelong last year where I felt quite detached from reality and was almost just an observer. That was until we hit te front in the first quarter!!!. And that win was without Watto.

Stranger things have happened but just hoping we don't get smashed.

I fear the worst, & anything under 10 goals would surprise me. Under 6 goals I'd be impressed.

Just to highlight our slide: http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default ... sid=142740
To highlight how well the Dawks are traveling: http://www.pro-stats.com.au/psw/web/team_home?tid=108

If our season was reversed I'd be confident to do these c****. Just too difficult with current form & injuries.

IF we are to be any chance, we have to improve:
  • Clearances: TB has to make his hit-outs count.
Inside 50s: We must take marks inside 50. Hille needs to pull his finger out, & the rest of the team needs to kick to advantage for a change. We also need goals (best way to avoid the rebound goals we've been copping)!
Defensive effort: We opened the corridor against the Cats (a team known to use that area as well as anyone). Whether it's intensity or intelligence, we need to use both. The Dawks are a side who use the ball better than anyone, so it's crucial that we can get them into as many contested situations as possible. Even when Franklin plays, they don't have many contested marks. The Cats have shown that if you apply enough pressure to the Dawks, they can be worn down & they will panic.
Mitchell needs be shut down. I'd get Hocking to make up for his absence the past 2 weeks.
Demps needs to do a job on Lewis. Lewis always seems to get in the right place at the right time without much effort. If Demps can keep him to a couple, & run off him & set up a few himself then that's a win for us.
Just hope that Rioli goes easy on us.

I'll be there as always, maybe get a pleasant surprise.
