Yes that is exactly what will happen. Exactly like that Hird game in 2004. The Essendon crowd will be on the umpires backs the entire time.. it won't matter whether it is the most blatant head high tackle, push in the back or holding the ball... the crowd will boo mercifully like they did in 2004... and naturally the umpires won't pay free kicks because of crowd pressure... we are going to get ass raped.

Yes, although Hird was not in contention in 2004 (was a pretty ordinary season by his standards). I remember watching the Brownlow telecast in 2004 and the entire crowd guffawed with bemusement when they read out the votes for that game and Hird got none. It was the moment when every single person who had two brain cells to rub together realised that the Brownlow Medal is almost a complete waste of time as umpires:

1) Are hopelessly biased
2) Are pithy little creatures taught to be completely intolerant to any criticism by the AFL no matter how justified
3) Do not necessarily allocate votes based on the best and fairest player, but instead on who they 'like'.
