Re: Devon Smith
What rotten luck Devon. Good luck with surgery and rehab, see you again in 2020. However it does give one of our young players an opportunity.
Who will it be? And who will we choose in the draft?

Re: Devon Smith
Yeah, get well soon Dev. We need you back fighting fit. Such a key to our team and his downward form line this year, as a result of injury, has really hurt the team.
The mid season draft is interesting. Will any player be really AFL ready without a full preseason in “the AFL system”? How long will it take to integrate with the team, game plan, routine etc?
I hope we find a big bodied inside mid who can extract the ball from contested situations. There must be many players out there who are good enough but we’re unlucky at the time of drafting not to get selected or were simply late bloomers. Take a look at Walla for example. They are out there.

When the media is talking up a number of cut players including Jackson Merrett and Declan Mountford ... you know the quality isn't as thick on the ground as the hype makes out...Windy_Hill wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2019 5:28 pm Yeah, get well soon Dev. There do seem to be some State level rucks worth a look, but I suspect that many of the clubs will focus on some of the over 19 TAC type talent on show to avoid additional competition at the end of the year draft.
So with Smith out for the year, do we get 2 selections?

If Smith is confirmed LTI we get 2 picks.
Re: Devon Smith
Do we get/need three if Daniher is out too?

Re: Devon Smith
We get as many as are on the LTI
Don’t have to use them, they are there...
Good thing SMack’s back...
Sadly, we can’t place players with no heart on the list, it’s not a medical condition apparently..,
Re: Devon Smith
Should Daniher be ruled out for the season, the Bombers would be able to open up a third selection at next week's Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
The two current selections have been created by Smith's setback and a season-ending ACL reconstruction to developing ruckman Sam Draper.

Re: Devon Smith
Yep, had a great first year. I was very pleased when we got him.
Tried hard to exert pressure etc but often just a tad late.
A shame about his wear and tear injuries as he could've been a repeat Crichton medalist in this current group. Not to be.
That's footy unfortunately. Best wishes for the future.
Re: Devon Smith
Jeepers. I just watched his retirement speech to the playing group. Far out… you just don’t realise how emotionally attached some players are.
All the best Devo. You obviously gave it everything you had. All the best in your next phase in life.

Re: Devon Smith
It's pretty stunning isn't it. I've watched a few AFL retirement vids this year, and I can't remember one that didn't make me choke up a little (or a lot).
Makes you really wonder about "fans" that bag out players and suggest they're not invested in the club/team.
Should be compulsory for all fans to watch their club's retiring players speeches.
Re: Devon Smith
Well played Devon.
Great season in 2018.
Unfortunately chronic injury let him down. You could see his frustration when he couldnt chase and do the things he wanted to do.
Good luck for the future.
